To absolutely hate tiny collectible shitty toys

DD3 is mad on all these little collectible shopkins hatchimals tsum tsum things, I can't stand them anymore they are taking over my house! Im sure they're breeding when I'm not around!

I don't mind the cute little Disney figurines, some are lovely and she genuinely appreciates every single one she has, she has collected tsums for a while and also has things like the duvets set and posters etc.

But then she came home from grandma's last week with a toy toilet that has little plastic germs and turds inside for her to collect all 3842 of and play with and now I'm drawing the line. Seriously who thinks these toys up?!

And they're advertised every 3 sodding minutes on all the kids channels so all I ever hear is ooh mummy can I please can I please can I please and then I get fleeced everytime we hit Sainsbury's!

I'm about to have a meltdown over a tiny plastic turd

Lol Bastard Dolls. Only Grandad is kind foolish enough to buy this shower of vastly overpriced shite for DD.

mirime · 10/04/2018 16:47

DS used to collect the Thomas minis and at least they had a code on the packet so I could make sure we didn't keep getting the same ones. Now he's into Lego mini figures and I've spent far too much time poking packets to find the ones he wants - I did manage to get a full Ninjago collection but I gave up on the Batman ones.

Shesellsseashellsontheseashore · 10/04/2018 17:07

Collections here too. Tsum tsums, Thomas minis, shopkins and num noms.
I won't pay full price for blind bags though . Recently found Thomas minis and cars 3 ones in poundland and Argos were selling transformers and tsum tsum ones for 79p. Argos also has cheap tsum tsum sets at the moment!

mummabearfoyrbabybears · 10/04/2018 17:20

Carpet gravel. Cant stand it!

DunkandEgg · 10/04/2018 17:24

How recently did you find those toys in Poundland, Shesells?

FallenAngel89 · 10/04/2018 17:27

Shopkins and any other "blind bags" they can get their hands on 😴 LOL's sell quite well 2nd hand on ebay when they're fed up with them, some people are crazy collectors!

LeighaJ · 10/04/2018 17:29

"But then she came home from grandma's last week with a toy toilet that has little plastic germs and turds inside for her to collect all 3842 of and play with and now I'm drawing the line."

Why would any child want that? Confused I'd send the toilet back to grandma's house and let her help collect all the...accessories...

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 10/04/2018 17:32

The old school Polly Pockets are coming back this year.

leeloo1 · 10/04/2018 17:41

I actually think that they're an incentive to gamble, as mostly what kids want is the adrenaline of the surprise. That's why they often loose interest once the bag is open. :(

My dd loved the trolls and at the time I spent a lot of time squidging packets (you could judge the shape of the troll against the picture on the box, then if you lined the troll up against the white barcode square you could see the colour.) that way we ended up with the key characters, instead of the also-rans. I don't know what I'd do if she wanted shopkins etc though, as they just seem to want all of them.

One of my friends is really hard up, but her dd has over 300+ shopkins and similar! I've known her to rebuy the shopkins comic as her dd was upset that she already had the secret one it came with! :(

FayKnights · 10/04/2018 17:48

We have a large collection of Moshi Monsters from a few years ago. I’m torn between charity shopping the lot and fear that the craze will come back and they will be worth something on eBay!

Toyboysrus · 10/04/2018 17:55

Moshi Monsters here too but they are bagged up in the loft so out of sight out of mind for now.

Soubriquet · 10/04/2018 18:32

My dd is into LOL dolls and hatchimals

Must admit I'm a sucker for both...I buy them for myself but put them in her box.

I make sure hers are in sealable boxes though so they don't go everywhere

Shesellsseashellsontheseashore · 10/04/2018 18:42

Dunk and egg, last few weeks before and around easter. Still saw lots of Thomas minis yesterday but no cars ones left in my local one. They've also had some dc mini hero ones but they felt a bit rubbish and so mini furby ones.
Worth a look if you have one local though!

Shesellsseashellsontheseashore · 10/04/2018 18:44

Home bargains have also had packets of 6 or 8 Thomas minis for about 6 or so pounds so works out roughly a pound each too.

blondebuddha · 12/04/2018 20:28

Hahaha was not expecting so many replies! Glad I'm not alone.

And bonus points to the poster who called them carpet gravel!

Oh ho ho, my dgd has absolutely every blasted small thing there is !!'

MaximumVolume · 12/04/2018 20:36

@mirime do you have swaps of the Ninjago figures? We have extras of Barman figures. DM me if you want to see if we can compete both sets!

Toomanycats99 · 12/04/2018 20:47

I just sold my dd shopkins. She had about 200 of the things. Sold them and a few playsets for £30ish. Must have been £350 new - nearly made me cry!

Drainedandconfused · 12/04/2018 20:48

I’m getting ready to move house and found a box in the attic containing 97 my little ponies, DD had my childhood collection then added to them, she’s now 22, I told her that I was going to sell them on eBay, she had a stroppy and said she couldn’t bear to part with them, they are now in a box in her attic Smile

DS has severe special needs and at 12 is still very much into Happyland, I have boxes and boxes of figures, shops, bakeries, post offices etc, I dread it when he drags the boxes out from under his bed and into the living room because it means I have to set up the whole town (huge metropolis of a city) for him, cue meltdown when the cat decides to walk through the middle of it.

Lego is banned after I had to use tweezers to get a piece out of his left nostril.

AgnesBrownsCat · 12/04/2018 21:04

I started my kids towards ones which I liked (inner child ). So they got the Lego mixels when they were available but not all of them . They did start to collect the Lego Disney Minifigures but lost interest before the collection was complete . Thanks to eBay and a Facebook swap page I’ve been able to complete the collection for them ( really me again ) .
I found that giving mine pocket pocket and making them hand it over to the shopkeeper made them realise how much they cost . I say no to a lot of tat . Lego is the one I will buy though as I do think it’s timeless . I’m more excited for the new Harry Potter Minifigure series I’m the summer than they are .
Ps for previous posters with duplicate Lego figures - there are a few Facebook pages to sell and swap minifigures .

theSnuffster · 12/04/2018 21:28

Yep! For DD it's all about the excitement of finding out what's inside- blind bags, little tubs, plastic eggs or balls etc. She hardly ever actually plays with the toy inside! She only wants kinder eggs for the toy, she doesn't like the chocolate. DS used to like the Lego mini figure blind bags when he was younger. I hate that you could be spending all that money and end up with something they already have at home... Probably lost at the bottom of a toy box!

TickledOnion · 12/04/2018 21:36

I feel your pain. We have LOLs, shopkins and hatchimals. They do play with the LOL dolls but not the others.
I once sat a woman buy Tesco’s entire stock of Lego minifigures. They were reduced from £3 to 75p I think but it still came to £600ish! I wanted to ask why she was buying them all but thought it was a bit too nosy.

Curious2468 · 12/04/2018 23:10

My daughter is 11 and we have hundreds of these things. The current obsessions is the hatchimals colleggtibles. They are £2 a figure and if we aren’t careful the dog eats them 🙈😫
She won’t part with any of her previous collections either

Turnocks34 · 12/04/2018 23:15

Yep. My son owns approximately 8427 hot wheels cars (not really but it feels that way) they literally are everywhere.

DunkandEgg · 12/04/2018 23:20

Thanks Shesells, I think I'm too late ,I reckon my local poundland don't have them especially if it was Easter stock.

I like the cars because they're proper metal diecast figures. Cute and dinky. my toddler daughter loves carrying them around with her, perfect size to fit in her hands.
