Some time ago I sustained a physical injury - one that can happen to anyone, just one of those things. It was painful and unpleasant and debilitating.
I went through my employee assistance programme at work and received some physio treatment but this was only a few sessions of which I could not afford more, and physio was concerned and told me to see my GP. GP was concerned enough to refer me on to a surgeon, for which I am now under their care, albeit long wait for appointments/treatment and the hospital is a considerable distance from where I live. I have no complaints about this more specialist service.
Both GP and surgeon stressed to me to continue with physical therapy whilst monitoring me but that it was an NHS self referral service, so I did this myself and was seen within a couple of weeks.
During this brief time (5 sessions) I didn’t really feel I was being offered any actual treatment of any kind, a lot of the sessions were just re-assessments and questions and I was given one set of exercises. After a time they decided there didn’t seem any point continuing to see me, and I should see the surgeon in a few weeks and then refer myself back. The surgeon was annoyed by this as he says that it is important to build muscle and the same one set of exercises will not continue to be relevant for long periods and with good physio I can avoid surgical intervention. I self referred 4 weeks ago and am now sitting on a waiting list
So do I complain to them, or is this the best I can expect? I wish I could afford more private physio but I can’t, and it seems crazy that I might end up with expensive, costly and painful surgery if I don’t get any physio. Also I am reluctant to have the surgery now I feel like I would be completely on my own in terms of rehabilitation from this physio service
