My phone was in the bed when we where messing around. and one of us must have caught it. Only realised it had been ringing when someone started talking I presume the person that ask you what service you want as we heard the word police my bf repeated this looking at me puzzled. I found my phone and ended the call straight away I don't think it went through to anyone. I the did the worse thing ever and googled and it said I should of stayed on the line and explained but I panicked and didn't want to waste anyone's time. It happened at like half 11 last night so am I safe to presume they realised we didn't mean to call ? I'm so sorry to all operators btw I will always make sure my phones on the floor from now on

That'll teach you the foolishness of taking nude photos on your phone.

@Shatnerswig

Where did the OP say she was taking nude photos? Confused

OP don't worry, the 999 team get loads of accidental dials and hoaxes, they are used to it. You're not going to prison!

Isn’t it because if you press a certain combination if buttons on iphone it goes to emergency call? Yes or no
No idea what the combination is

You can set it up so that if you press the power button five times, it calls the emergency services. This isn't enabled by default.

SimonBridges · 10/04/2018 10:24

I think it is default on the iPhone.
I tried it once. Lord it makes a huge noise.

I had a very similar experience! Glad to know it's not just me as I was paranoid they would ring ss on me. My son was 2 and dialled 999 I was on the phone to my sister in the kitchen, when I came back in the room I noticed him on the phone so took it off him, I heard a voice and it was a police operator.i explained it was an accident but She said it sounded like I was having an argument! I wasn't at all, which I told her, she said ok fine. 10 minutes later two police men at my door! She obviously didn't believe me.

Grandadwasthatyou · 10/04/2018 10:51

I definitely can't remember setting up my iPhone to ring the emergency services but realised it had done so as I was taking my phone out of my bag one day and realised it was ringing 112. ( I was abroad at the time).

Pinkvoid · 10/04/2018 11:00

I did it as a toddler playing around with the house phone. My DM was cleaning the kitchen and had absolutely no idea until two police officers turned up at the door and asked if everything was ok...

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 10/04/2018 11:00

My (adult) son butt dialled 999. The first we knew of it was the police at my mum's door (she lives in the garden). She rang me and my son and I dashed out thinking that they had been sent by the hospital because dad was nearing the end. I was crying as I ran across the garden, my son was holding on to me because he thought I was going to faint and the police could not have been nicer. We were all so embarrassed but the police were so sweet and helped us laugh about it.

Mumofkids · 10/04/2018 11:07

Happened to us when son was young and playing with phone. They sent someone to check.
Happened again with mobile more recently (I think it dials if just 9 is held down once) and they called back to check everything was ok!

taratill · 10/04/2018 15:07

my autistic son has called 999 a couple of times and hung up. On each occasion the operator has called us straight away to see if we need support.

SinkGirl · 10/04/2018 15:14

Years ago I had a Samsung (I think) phone - you could set an emergency contact thing on it, which I set as my DH.

Turns out if you pressed a certain combo of buttons it calls that number, there’s a pre recorded message about being in danger or needing help and then starts playing the sound from your phone to the person on the other end.

Mine was set off somehow while it was in my bag - my DH said it sounded like I was underwater or in a sewer or something and he absolutely crapped himself.

Whoops.

Copperbonnet · 10/04/2018 17:17

I unknowingly bum dialled 911 (I live in the US) and they called me back to check I wasn’t in distress or in need of help.

I apologised profusely and they were very nice about it.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 10/04/2018 17:25

I was once ‘pranked’ Hmm in Canada to call a mobile number which included 911. Didn’t know that any combo of numbers which have 911 will go through to emergency services so I had an embarrassing conversation with the handler.

Tore a strip off the guy that gave me the number to call who at least had the good grace to be embarrassed as he didn’t realise it’s not the same here!

In answer to your question OP I think you’re probably ok Smile

DD did this once when she was about 4. She had seen it on TV. Police turned up and I apologised profusely. They were very rude to me, saying they believed I was lying and covering for someone. They looked all round the house and garden, it was daft. I was polite but was petrified they were going to arrest me as one just kept banging on about me lying and got quite aggressive actually.
It turned out, after DH called the main Station the next morning that our home was known to them from a previous tenant and he had clearly seen this and put 2 and 2 together and assumed wrongly I was one of them. They apologised for the upset and promised to update their info. After that, the phone was placed as high up as it could get!
