My dd has found some chewing gum in her older sisters room. She's caked it into her hair and smeared it over her ear, fortunately none appears to be inside the ear. How am I hoing to get this out without cutting a big clump of hair away. She won't keep still either.

Try oil. If you have any jojoba that would be great for her hair too.

From the internet:
Find a jar of creamy style peanut butter or vegetable oil, such as olive oil.
Cover the gum completely with peanut butter or oil using your fingers or an old toothbrush. With peanut butter, the oils in the product make the chewing gum base stiffer and less sticky.
Wait a few minutes to allow the product to work.
Remove the gum from the hair. Vegetable oil is especially useful when removing gum from eyebrows or eyelashes.
Wash your child’s hair as normal so your child does not smell like lunch.

Good luck!

Yes, oil is your friend here, slick it up, wait 5 mins the pull away as much as you can with your fingers and use a comb for the rest.

Hairspray. DH got gum on a cashmere jumper. This worked great: Spray loads of hairspray on it and it goes very brittle. You can them crumble the gum out. Amazing, very little mess.

Ice. Try and freeze it

Yes to olive oil, worked for my friend’s son

Spray it with hair spray and it’ll go hard and you may be able to crumble it out.

I now have a daughter with extremely greasy hair. The gum broke down into small clumps and I managed to work most of it out. Her hair feels a little tacky.
Thanks for the hair spray tip. I may need to invest in some in case I find any on her clothes or bed linen etc.
