To think I should have known the NHS has its own skincare range?

I just stumbled across this when googling NHS articles about skincare.
The NHS has its own clinically-developed skincare range, and all profits on the sales go to the NHS: mytrustyskincare.co.uk/

Is this something everyone already knew about except me, or are they just really bad at promoting it? You'd think there'd be posters in every NHS waiting room in the country.

I knew but only because a Facebook friend who works in the NHS posts about it frequently!

CrazyDuchess · 08/04/2018 22:57

Well it's not an NHS range it looks like it's specific to Salisbury trust?

WhatCanIDoNowPlease · 08/04/2018 22:57

Wow I've never heard about this.

applespearsbears · 08/04/2018 22:58

It seems specifically for Salisbury NHS Trust, not a generic NHS cream - still seems strange to me that a Trust would do this have you checked its legit on their website?

Zampa · 08/04/2018 22:58

I used a body oil by them when I was pregnant. It was lovely. Highly recommend.

CrazyDuchess · 08/04/2018 22:58

Sorry - ignore my post Blush

I read the website fully - embarrassed as I work in the NHS and never heard of it

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 08/04/2018 22:58

That's amazing. Thanks for mentioning it.

Leeds2 · 08/04/2018 22:58

I have never seen any mention of it either.

Zampa · 08/04/2018 23:00

And it's definitely legit. Mine came via Prima Baby

Doublevodka · 08/04/2018 23:00

I work for the NHS and never knew this. But maybe that's because it's only Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust that make it? Not sure.

Zampa · 08/04/2018 23:01

You can buy it in our Tesco.

I’m recovering from a broken leg in Salisbury hospital and was given some sunflower cream it’s amazing.

Jeanvaljean27 · 08/04/2018 23:17

This article on Salisbury NHS trust seems to give the lowdown on it.

Looks like it’s some sort of sunflower oil based preparation they started using on their own patients and then decided to package and market as a nice little earner for the hospital. Sounds like it provides an income stream for their inpatient care budget.

Somewhat odd considering it just seems to be a purely cosmetic product yet is being marketed as being ‘unique’. They don’t mention having done any trials on it proving its efficacy which I suspect would be a minimum requirement on anything that’s being marketed by an NHS trust.

alienlaunchpad · 08/04/2018 23:36

@Jeanvaljean27 I read Ben Goldacre's Bad Science book a few years ago and there was a whole chapter about moisturisers. From memory he said that the basics of skin moisturisation are well understood and proven, and so even the cheapest products do the job, with slightly more expensive products adding value such as "non-comodogenic" properties - i.e. they don't block your pores. However everything else was just perfume, colour and marketing. So it wouldn't be unjustified for the NHS to produce a product on these terms.

Personally I prefer non-perfumed products so have always used the Simple brand. But it really bugged me a few years ago when I heard a Hedge Fund owner on Radio 4 boasting about buying Simple and openly scoffing at the millions of people in the uk who "believe they have sensitive skin". In my experience people buy perfume-free products because they don't like perfume, not because they have sensitive skin.

Sunflower oil is very similar to the skin oil we produce so a good base for a moisturiser!

6triesbuttingout · 09/04/2018 00:02

I’ve not come across this before! It looks lovely and I have very and sensitive skin so I’m gonna tea a close look . Thanks x

Wdigin2this · 09/04/2018 00:17

Never heard of it!

Hissy · 09/04/2018 07:07

My ds was given it as part of his burns recovery at Salisbury burns unit a few years ago. It was apparently developed for this purpose, the hospital grade has nothing in the way of perfume, at the time you could get lavender from the online shop, but I’ve not long bought one from Superdrug I think that had bergamot etc in it an is just lovely!

Can’t recommend it highly enough Smile

EskSmith · 09/04/2018 14:35

Thanks for recommending, I've just bought 2 tubes for me and my Dad to try, currently on offer in Super drug.
I really hope it's good, reasonably priced and profits to a good cause :)
