To have asked them to take the shoes off their kids feet

At the cinema today and just as the film cane on a family came in, the two kids had light up shoes that were on all the time and so bright. There was only them and us in the cinema.

We tried to move a few times but the shoes were that bright you could see the glow all over the cinema, then everyone they moved their foot they flashed.
I went over and whispered to the mum that the kids shoes were very distracting but she said “tough”
So I went out and found a steward who looked at me like I was crazy but once she got in the cinema she said she could see what I mean and she has never seen anything like it.

The steward asked them to do something about the shoes or they would have to leave. The Mum stood up and stomped out followed by the dad and kids saying she would demand a refund
So was I unreasonable

No.

What selfish idiots those parents are.

Thistlebelle · 08/04/2018 14:59

Not unreasonable in the least.

jaseyraex · 08/04/2018 15:01

Definitely not unreasonable, especially if a steward agreed with you. How ridiculous stomping out in a huff instead of just taking the bloody shoes off.

Gemini69 · 08/04/2018 15:01

well done you.. they sound like entitled idiots Flowers

youarenotkiddingme · 08/04/2018 15:02

Nope - not unreasonable.

By the parents reasoning you can limit the enjoyment of others as long as you pay for the pleasure!

Eggzandbacon · 08/04/2018 15:03

Nope - DD has some, they aren’t that bright but we have taken them off in the theatre before.

anxious2017 · 08/04/2018 15:03

YANBU.

DS has incredibly bright flashing shoes where the whole sole lights up (grandparents' purchase 🙄). They light up an entire room. I'd never allow them at the cinema!

I was once told off in a cinema because the tiny notification light on my phone was flashing in my bag and it had distracted someone. I was mortified!

Those shoes would be incredibly distracting.

KarmaStar · 08/04/2018 15:05

Not unreasonable at all op,you should be the ones getting a refund if anyone!Smile

GreenItWas · 08/04/2018 15:18

The world has gone mad entirely. Does anyone watch old films and wish people were as polite as that nowadays. I am sick of the way people go on nowadays. I'm middle aged but feel ancient!

incywincybitofa · 08/04/2018 15:20

Nope they don't let you have mobiles on because the blue screen is distracting no reason why the more annoying shoes should be any different.

edwinbear · 08/04/2018 15:24

YANBU - if they were those light up LED ones where the whole sole lights up they are very bright and should definitely be switched off in a cinema.

chickenowner · 08/04/2018 15:25

YANBU

And what a rude woman!

Thegreatestshowwomen · 08/04/2018 15:30

Yes I have looked them up and they are the LED ones that light up th while sole. You couldn’t move out of the way of the glare. Even directly in front of them 6 rows down you could still see th glare in the corner of both eyes

I can see that you might forget what they had on their feet when you went to the cinema, but the minute they flashed when you were there you'd take them off surely? Confused

I once had a couple of women with a few kids between them that thought it was fine to sit and have a chit chat during the movie presumably because it was a kids film and they weren't interested. A: I couldn't give a flying fuck whether you are interested but I've paid for a ticket for DSs and I so I'd like to hear what the movie is saying rather than hearing about what you made for dinner last night and B: what kind of example is that to set to your DC?

You were in the right OP.

Thegreatestshowwomen · 08/04/2018 15:31

Can you just turn them off?
It was the Greatest Showman as well, the third time I have seen it but no one comes between me and Hugh

YANBU. They are inconsiderate, entitled idiots.

Sunflowersforever · 08/04/2018 16:14

My hero

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 08/04/2018 16:23

"Tough". It sounds to me like they're the type of kids who are allowed to do as they please. Well she won't be saying "tough" when the consequences of her ridiculous lack of respect are her children running a mocking and the police being at her door.
Now okay it seems very over dramatic over a pair of light up shoes, but from little acorns big oak trees grow

SomeKnobend · 08/04/2018 16:28

I hope you gave her the thumbs up as she left, while mouthing the word "tough". Selfish arse. Poor kids could have stayed to watch the film if she'd been more considerate.

whiteroseredrose · 08/04/2018 16:54

YANBU. It's really distracting. We went to see Wizard of Oz at the Lowry a few years ago and they were selling plastic tat that would spin an light up. Ruined the performance for us but the DC wouldn't let me complain!
