Upstairs noise

So I've been in my flat for just over a year now and have a little baby.
Upstairs have three kids and wooden floors so understandably there's a lot of noise. At first is annoyed me but I got used to it and all was fine.

But recently it's gotten a lot worse for a lot longer time... the dad leaves early (530am) and is really loud in the stairways/ corridors/slams the doors, waking me/the baby up! The noise doesnt stop til 10pm (these are young kids ) so the baby can wake up a number of times ! Hell I've gotten her used to noise etc. in our flat so that just shows how loud it can be!
I totally sympathise with the fact there's a few kids in a small flat winding each other up but it's getting out of hand.
AIBU to go upstairs and say something??? I'm not sure how to do it without sounding like a grade a douchebag....
Xxx

Hey!

We had exactly the same issue, new upstairs neighbours, three kids, wooden floors. One night we actually thought they were going to come through the roof so my
Husband went up and had a polite word. They had no idea they were so loud, apologised and have been much better since. It's your home and it's not fair to be miserable, say something for sure.

I’ve been the waker (high heels on wooden floors) to the wakee (enthusiastic DIYer at mental hours). Neighbours complained to me in a PA way of ‘the pony in the roof’ to which my BF agreed. Fair enough, no heels until I’m out. DIYer I spoke to when I delivered a package left to him and he explained it was for his daughter etc and he acknowledged it was loud and we both agreed not before 9am.

Point I’m making is just go talk. People generally don’t want to be arseholes x

I went up once before and asked but she looked at me like I was mad! She apologised but at the time there she had a load of guests over late (I didnt realise) so it calmed down when they left but it's not quite the same x

Would the dad just be making normal noise at 5.30 though ? I can’t imagine him slamming doors etc so he purposely wakes his own kids up ?

Just go up and say it’s noisy, they will either try and be quiet or they won’t. Worth a try

I didn't think wooden floors were allowed in top floor flats? Can you have a word with the management company to see if that's the case.

SShaming · 08/04/2018 13:10

Frankly, wooden floors in flats should be banned unless prepped with proper soundproofing underlay.

But back to your AIBU, you should definitely say something.

BlueLightPanda · 08/04/2018 13:10

I wish my upstairs neighbours would stop the noise after politely asking them too!

Same situation as you OP 3 young kids (3 under 6) and now wooden floors. the noise is ridiculous even as i type the noise impact on my ceiling is bad!

They just don’t care and unfortunately for me the council don’t care either.
