I know baby jogger technically cant nor wont help me as i bought my bjcm 2nd hand but im still upset nonetheless. I bought said buggy last year via ebay. Buggy has been amazing until today when it snapped in two with my little boy in it while i was bringing it up a single step into my house. Im actually gutted as it was an amazing buggy. I know theres nothing that can be done as such but i just wanted to vent i guess. Pics attatched for anyone interested to see

Did you clip the red straps to the frame? They look undone in the second photo

Confusedbeetle · 07/04/2018 18:00

Sadly, although you can get a real bargain second hand sometimes there is no way of knowing if someone has given the buggy a hammering and compromised the structure. Glad no one was hurt

KateGrey · 07/04/2018 18:01

I’ve always had baby joggers. Has the frame snapped? Also noticed the red straps not done up. Is your child okay?

Nixen · 07/04/2018 18:01

The risk you take with buying second hand I’m afraid! Unfortunate but the main thing is your wee one wasn’t hurt

YerAuntFanny · 07/04/2018 18:06

There's always the risk that something can go wrong when you buy second hand regardless of the brand because you don't know if they've been ill treated or used improperly.

Hope your wee one is alright, it can be a bit of a fright!

Also FWIW we've had 2 Baby Joggers, one of which was bought before they added the safety strap mechanism and never bothered using it on the second, I never felt any compromise on the frame.

ItsNachoCheese · 07/04/2018 18:07

Straps were on but ive just undid them to see if the buggy can fold down as i cant do it via the pull handle

Just looked again and see what you mean now it looks snapped/broken. Hope your little one is ok op

ItsNachoCheese · 07/04/2018 18:09

kategrey yes the frame has snapped in two :(
I do appreciate there is a risk with buying 2nd hand and wont ever dispute that. Im glad my ds is okay though thats the main thing buggies are replaceable he is not

I know it's serious, and would put me off buying child equipment second hand, but I had to laugh over the fact while your child was half upside down, you managed to get out your camera and take a photo!

Hellohellohowareyou · 07/04/2018 18:11

It’s shame as it’s a great buggy! Ours is still going strong after 5 years and 3 trips abroad. As you said at least DS is ok though

ItsNachoCheese · 07/04/2018 18:15

numbsnet i know it looks bad 🙈 but i wanted a picture to show that it broke when he was in it

It’s worth contacting Babyjogger direct - the frames have a lifetime guarantee and when I’ve contacted them in the past they’ve never asked for proof of purchase....

Worth a phone call anyway.

YerAuntFanny · 07/04/2018 18:20

What weight is he?

I'm not sure if it's the angle but he looks pretty big, is he over the weight limit?

ItsNachoCheese · 07/04/2018 18:22

sashkin is that even with what is printed on their website? Thanks ill try them again on monday as nobody was avaliable when he phoned.

yerauntfanny he is tall for his age but he is within the weight limit for the buggy. I wouldnt use it if he werent

Numbsnet I'm glad I'm not the only one. Glad he's ok op. I think your very unlucky I've never had a problem with second hand stuff

ItsNachoCheese · 07/04/2018 18:42

Im thinking so too moominfan as ive bought 2nd hand and its been great

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 07/04/2018 18:43

Unfortunately this can happen if you buy second hand. You just don't know that the previous owners haven't flown 20 times with that buggy (Ryanair smashed my Oyster buggy in half so I have reason to know how roughly buggies are handled), in which case it may have been structurally weakened when you bought it.

Even a good buggy can only take so much!

ItsNachoCheese · 07/04/2018 18:53

The frame has been perfect up until now with no issues. Looks like ds will be buggyless from now on lol

lostherenow · 07/04/2018 19:06

You need to contact Kooltrade who are the Baby jogger distributor in the UK. In my experience they do ask for proof of purchase though so I don't think you will get anywhere.

I bought a Maclaren pushchair second hand, looked perfect, collapsed into loads of pieces with my 18 month old in it in a hospital car park going to see a sick relative after only a couple of weeks. You never know with second hand pushchairs.

KateGrey · 07/04/2018 19:12

Crikey. We’ve brought some secondhand but never had a frame snap in two. That’s worrying.

ItsNachoCheese · 07/04/2018 19:16

kategrey thats whats concerning me as it shouldnt snap like that at all. Its not as if baby jogger is a cheaper make of buggy either

Mine lasted 7 years constant use over 2 dc and many trips abroad and now going strong with friends dc. Unfortunate but maybe you loaded it up wrong or pushed it too far.

ItsNachoCheese · 07/04/2018 19:29

zennudist his buggy was used mainly for the nursery run and the odd trip to the shops. I didnt load it up wrong as i know a buggy isnt a trolley for everythig to go in
