My oh insists on this....in case we get a puncture and miss our flight.

It looks like Manchester is the worst for getting through security. We have the added issue of needing to allow enough time to get over Woodhead Pass and though the horror that is the Hollingworth "car park"

Loni Your journey is identical to mine. What do you think the airport will be like for an 8am flight bank holiday Monday at terminal one? Last time on a Saturday for a 6am flight it was really easy but I think that may have been a one off

Monday morning terminal one at MAN is a disaster. For an 8am flight departure you need to be hitting the security line by 6am.

Oh gawd. I had a feeling that would be the case. It was almost too easy that Saturday a few weeks ago. Are there lots more flights on a Monday than on a Saturday or is it the time that makes a difference Want2b?

i always get there 3 hours before departure at least now.
Remember backpacking around the world for a year, missed my flight in mumbai, had to get overnight bus to delhi because on a backpacker budget, run through check in security in a panick, and only just got on the last flight to sydney for the next 2 weeks.

Thankfully, DH and I are both moderately early people. We've both flown enough to have experienced the last minute dash a few times through no fault of our own. Motorway closures, change of gate (requiring another turn through security), long lines, not being able to use online check-in, a kid needing the toilet more often than we'd planned for etc etc.

So - we plan to be far enough ahead to cope with a mishap or two, but not ridiculous.

I have arrived at an airport where there was a 2 hour line just to get to check-in, then another hour to get to security. Luckily, they were organized enough to call people forward according to flight numbers, but not everywhere is like this.

witch Yes there are a lot more flights and passengers Monday morning. Business travel to Europe is normally 7am-9am departures on Monday morning returning late on Thursdays. I leave Thursday night and fly back Sunday. Often I can't get on the Thursday night flight and have to leave Wednesday.

This coming week is the last week of Easter school holidays too. Lots of families with primary school aged children taking trips this week.

Ah that makes sense. Thank you
