To wish mumsnet would stop treating us like 1950's housewives?

In the last month there have been THREE pinned posts about laundry. That 'which laundry tribe' rubbish, followed by the current ones on laundry rules and wait for it....a laundry quiz!!

This is MUMSNET FFS. Full of intelligent, articulate women discussing a range of social, political and personal issues...and yet all the targeted advertising assumes we're thick enough to need patronising on the 'rules' of laundry!!! There are no bloody rules...

Mumsnet HQ - please, get some integrity.

Also I'm boycotting fairy non bio and persil who were the sponsors of those threads. Anyone want to join?

Totally agree. DP does most of the laundry in our house.

YANBU

I don't even click on those threads as I fail dismally when it comes to 'getting passionate' about washing clothes (or dishes + pots).

Mrscog · 07/04/2018 09:45

Would you be willing to subscribe to mumsnet instead to find the site? It’s big multi nationals who keep this show on the road?

Mamabear1475 · 07/04/2018 09:45

How dare you. I'm a woman and all I ever think about is laundry. I'm off to scrub my front step with a toothbrush Hmm

TheQueenOfWands · 07/04/2018 09:45

I've never understood how laundry became such a 'thing'.

You just do it and forget about it.

Not really worthy of a discussion. Let alone three discussions.

Fuckingitupforfree · 07/04/2018 09:46

I'd rather laundry threads than ones about licking arseholes which is apparently the funniest thread ever..

MrsWooster · 07/04/2018 09:47

On the one hand, YANBU.
On the other hand! If sponsorship like this is what it takes to keep Mumsnet operating a free(ish) space on the internet for women to talk and debate and be a huge force for good (imo) by raising issues that others won't touch, then YABU.

Slarti · 07/04/2018 09:48

I see what you're saying OP but people do laundry and have asked about it here. Not sure proscribed topics, for the sake of maintaining a particular site image, would work. Any topic about childcare, housework etc, posted on a predominantly female site is going to have the same effect isn't it?

So do I. I'm a man and I posted on the laundry thread.

BuntyII · 07/04/2018 09:51

YABU. Cleaning is part of life for men and women. I love reading housework and cleaning tips. Don't actually do any of them but still. Doesn't make me a 1950s housewife Hmm

himalayansalt · 07/04/2018 09:51

In many ways I agree and I have no time for the "women's magazine" type of content, the Style & Beauty promotions and the Mummy Bloggers too. But this is still a free site and a few stickied threads in active convos are a lot less annoying than flashing noisy ads.
