AIBU to have a bit of a rant?

AIBU to have a bit of a complaining session?

I’m probably being a bit U but just want to get this off my chest.

I was given a job offer at the end of February, but it was provisional because they still needed to do a criminal records check and other pre-job checks. This is, of course, totally understandable and reasonable.

The initial plan was that I would start the job at the end of March, but because the job checks haven’t been finished, I haven’t started the job yet.

I emailed them a couple of days ago to ask about the progress of the job checks, and they said they’re still doing them, and they’ll let me know when a start date has been finalised.

It’s already early April, and it’s been just over a month since I was offered the job, which I’m really excited about.

AIBU to feel a bit frustrated?

YANBU to be frustrated but these things take time.

I was 8 weeks before I could start working at the airport with all the checks they had to do!

Tobestronger · 06/04/2018 15:32

I'm not sure what it's like now but the crb used to take ages to come back! Just looked online though and it says four weeks.

Could it be an old employer not sending a reference back?

I'd be annoyed if you had a start date but not sure what you can do.

Tobestronger · 06/04/2018 15:33

That said my Mum had a similar experience to Pomeranio and it was months.

Is this an NHS job? They're painfully slow! My DS went for a job at our local hospital as bank staff, working in the kitchen. It took 3 months, from the point of interview until he was cleared to work.

NameChangeTimeNow · 06/04/2018 15:53

It’s not an NHS job, VioletCharlotte, but I think the verification process for new employees must be similar to the NHS, as it’s also a public sector job.

It could be that, Tobestronger.

It's frustrating, so YANBU, but these things can be annoyingly slow sometimes, especially when the employer has to use a third party company for the checks which takes it out of their hands.

Sorry you're having to wait though. Are you still working in your previous role?

NameChangeTimeNow · 06/04/2018 17:17

Thanks NoWay. Yep I’m still working in my previous job for now. It’s freelance and ad hoc hours, so I’m lucky to have that in a way, as I can move all my current weekly work to weekends when I start this new job, but the whole situation is just a bit frustrating.

The NHS are awful.
My friend got offered a job in February and didn't start until September!
