Help! Feel like I have a brick in my eye...!!

Sorry to post in AIBU but I'm posting for traffic..

So I had my semi permanent eyelash extensions done yesterday. All good. I left the salon feeling like I had something in my eye. This isn't unusual as sometimes this happens and it ends up being a lash has got caught in my lash line. So I managed to drive home and have a poke around. No lash in my lash line and still I feel something is pricking me in my eye.

As the afternoon wore on the feeling got worse. I sent DH out to get me some eye drops and he came back with dry eye eye drops. Ive been applying it regularly but the feeling has gradually got worse.

This morning I've woken and my eye is all swollen and when I move my eyeball it feels like I have a brick in my eye! It's painful and so sore! I have my Nan's funeral to go to this afternoon and I'm in agony. When I think back to the events of yesterday, I have a feeling what has happened is when she came to remove the tape from underneath my eyes, I think she may have accidentally caught my actual eyeball when she ripped off the tape.

My other eye is fine and I have used this lady and her products many times before so I know it's not a reaction to her glue etc.

Does anyone have any experience of this and what i can do? Is there another eye care product I need to buy just to relieve things for this afternoon?

You need to get this looked at urgently, the surface of your eye could be damaged which could lead to an infection.

Neverender · 06/04/2018 10:09

Is it light sensitive too? And watering? I idea if it's the same thing but I scratched my eyeball and ended up with an corneal ulcer. If it sounds similar go to A&E. Flowers

SmokingGun · 06/04/2018 10:13

I have had lash extensions for the last 4 years and regularly get similar problems. The fake lashes catch all sorts of very fine fibers that are hard too see but really irritate your eye.

I go into a dark room with a hand held mirror and use the torch on my phone to shine straight into my eye. If you move the torch round your eye at some point you will probably catch a glimpse of some sort of fibre tangled in your lashes that is dangling into your eye.

Good luck, i feel your pain. It’s horrendous.

Poshjock · 06/04/2018 10:14

You need to go to A&E as they will have a full range of medication & equipment to deal with your issue. Sounds like an abrasion but the only way to properly tell and see the severity of it, is to pop fluorescien dye in your eye and look at it under blue light. You will likely get local anaesthetic drops in at the time which are bliss and then some eye cream and drops to prevent infection. Unfortunately A&E can be a very time consuming experience - although mid morning on a weekday can be one of the less busy times.

The good news is that eyes heal quick. The bad news is that they hurt like blazes and can infect really easily.

Flockoftreegulls · 06/04/2018 10:17

Try your local opticians, they will be able to take a quick look and tell you if there's anything in there.

Jinglebells99 · 06/04/2018 10:17

You need to get that looked at by some sort of emergency doctor or optician. Sounds horrendous.

SluttyButty · 06/04/2018 10:17

If you e got an eye hospital near you then you need to go and wait in their emergency dept ideally to let an ophthalmologist have a good look.

Talith · 06/04/2018 10:18

Corneal abrasion. You need to be seen by a doc although there isn't much they can do. They will heal generally in a few days unless very deep, and keep your eye moist even lightly taping it closed at night incase they can reabrase.

If there's an eye a&e anywhere near you might be able to persuade them to pop a bandage lens in (plain contact lens which stops the eyelid rubbing on the sore patch).

I had a bad one and no pain like it. Much sympathy xxx

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 06/04/2018 10:19

I had a corneal abrasion a few years ago that was very painful and felt like a brick in my eye - I went to the GP who sent me straight to the hospital. My advice would be get a medical professional to have a look asap - hope everything's ok.

Crazyladee · 06/04/2018 10:39

I can't go to A and E or an opticians today as I am getting ready to go to my Nan's funeral.

Is there anything I can pick up from the chemist on the way to the funeral to soothe it in the meantime?

I scratched my eyeball when I got something in it. I had to go to Minor Injuries and needed antibiotic ointment to stop infection.

planetclom · 06/04/2018 10:48

Eye drops that's it and you have tried them. Talk to the pharmacist for the type that will work to stop further damage but they won't make it feel better today unfortunately. Then you need to go to have it checked. Try minor injury's this time of day they tend to be a bit quiet.

ohgodalmightywhatnext · 06/04/2018 10:52

Go to the funeral then straight to a&e

Mari50 · 06/04/2018 10:52

Get some optrex infected eyes and keep using the lubricant then get yourself to your optometrist asap. Don’t go to a&e .

LakieLady · 06/04/2018 11:00

We have a minor injuries unit close to where we live and they're brilliant with eyes. Much quicker than A&E if you have something similar.

I agree it needs checking out.

listsandbudgets · 06/04/2018 11:14

You have my sympathy. I had a piece of grit fly into eye in a high wind and despite 30 minutes rinsing still felt like it was in there. Finally made ot to A&E in absolute agony and for sone reason unable to open either eye and it was an abrasion as PPs have said although they also found and removed the grit too. The morohine didnt touch it but local anaesthetic was astonishingly quick to work.

Id rather give birth to be honest. I know you need to go to funeral but dont delay getting help after that. I hope the pain goes down soon.

Clandestino · 06/04/2018 11:33

Laugh or not but my cat had the same issue (couldn't talk about it though but very visible).
He ended up on antibiotics. Can't see how the treatment for mammals would hugely differ.

Talith · 06/04/2018 13:26

Antibiotics certainly was the only treatment offered as standard a couple of years ago and that doesn't touch the pain unfortunately. I begged for codeine which took my mind off it a bit. It's such a grim injury. I got the bandage contact lens after mine kept reabrase get and it was heaven. It was only meant to be a month but I ignored the checkups and left it on for much longer, terrified of the pain returning. It's fine now. Eyes do heal quickly all being equal.

listsandbudgets · 06/04/2018 20:20

How is it now OP? I hope that you are feeling better

Crazyladee · 08/04/2018 01:22

Hi

Well I spent yesterday at the funeral in agony.. (mentally and physically but that's another thread!)

Today I called 111 and they just directed me to A and E. I didn't want to drive so managed to get a taxi there. They did a full examination and squirted dye into my eye. They couldn't find any scratches or abrasions (even though today my eye felt worse than ever) but the doctor prescribed me antibiotic eye drops and a course of antibiotic pills. I can feel it starting to ease off already, thank god.

Thanks to everyone for the advice.

Glad you're feeling better as I said before eyes do heal quick and the antibiotic (Chloramphenicol) is brilliant. Pop it in the fridge and it's utter bliss when the cold liquid hits your eye.
