To think as GP surgery HAS an appointment - they should have given it to me?

So I need to see a Dr.

I know the issue to anaemia as it was flagged a few weeks ago when I went to give blood.

Can't ring bang on 8am when they open as I'm commuting.

It's not an 'urgent' appointment for on the day - which are mornings anyway - and I'm at work and obviously not ill enough to keep taking days off until I'm lucky enough to get an urgent.

So I ring again this morning. No appointments - ring 8am Monday (I'm told) when they release more. except that means usually 20-40 minutes on phone to be told "ring at 8!"

Asked me if I'm online. I'm not registered for this. Ask why.

Because we have online appointments available Tuesday. "I'll have one of them then" say I.

"no, you can only book them online. Come down with photo id, get a form, register for online and then if they are still available you can book it that way"

WTF?

This must make to sooooo difficult for people who don't have the internet or the vulnerable and elderly who can't use the internet.

If they have an appointment I cannot see why they can't allocate it to me?

AIBU?

@youarenotkiddingme book an appointment with a nurse, not a GP. They will be able to discuss, take blood and then go from there. No one is going to do anything for anaemia without a blood sample and the GP won't be taking that.

You can't book nurse appointments unfortunately. Even reception confirmed I need to physically see a GP - whilst telling me for 2 weeks there wasn't one available for routine apt which is what I need 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣

Register for online booking, it makes life easier if just to avoid talking to doctors receptionists.

Op, I don't think you've been unreasonable at all & I would feel the same as you. It seems unless you go to the dr a lot (for yourself), you don't know how to work the system!

Thanks to you & this thread, Ive just gone onto my own GPs website (I very rarely visit - last appt was a few years ago) & it seems they've also introduced online appt booking but you need to go in first with 2 forms of ID. I might do this the next time I'm passing so that at least that's set up!

Thanks for you & hope your anaemia is sorted soon.

What really annoys me is that I’ve requested online log in details three times now - by the time I’m next able to get to the surgery (I’m disabled and have toddler twins, don’t drive and there’s no bus route to the surgery so it means a very long walk down and back up a very big hill) they’ve binned them because I haven’t picked them up quickly enough.

They won’t issue them same day when I’m there, and I’ve tried calling and asking them to do it a few days before I have an appointment so it’s ready when I come in and they’ve said no. Argh.
