To ask where I go to get dcs stone stuck under skin treated?

Some months ago now, my 6 year old DC fell and bumped her forehead at school badly. I cleaned it up and it began to heal over.

Once the scab dropped off, it's become obvious a small stone is stuck in there. This hurts her if she catches it, plus looks awful.

Where would I get something like this treated? I don't want to wait 6 weeks for a doctors appointment only to be told to go elsewhere (plus I'm not sure a doctor could deal with this in the surgery.
Also, it's not an emergency, so not an a&he job.

Walk in centre were amazing when our son did this to his knee.

BalloonFlowers · 06/04/2018 16:47

The injury is several months old. It doesn't need A&E. It doesn't need minor injuries.
Book a GP appointment.

WeirdyMcBeardy · 06/04/2018 16:54

My GP surgery does minor surgeries, if yours does I'd make an appointment.

This happened to me at a similar age, on my leg. It came out. A month ago! It won't necessarily work its way out.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 06/04/2018 16:55

It's not an A&E job. An unsightly bump from a lodged stone some months back is not A&E's remit, not even if it happened in an accident.

GP. The practice nurse may be able to take it out

MollyDaydream · 06/04/2018 17:00

I'd either call 111 or get a same day GP or practice nurse appointment.

Mydoghatesthebath · 06/04/2018 17:03

Sorry am I in a parallel universe?

2 pages to tell the op the bloody obvious.

Go to your GP! Tell them the situation and they will advise. Or google your nearest drop in clinic

How can an adult not know these things.

SecretBum · 06/04/2018 17:04

I'd probably call my Dr's and ask the receptionist if we needed the Dr or nurse.

We did that before when dh had a non-healing injury he wanted looked at and the receptionist put dh on hold and went to ask the nurse who should be seen (in his case it was A&E but they were very helpful).

ourkidmolly · 06/04/2018 17:07

Will you post a pic please so we can see how far under the skin it's embedded.

BrazzleDazzleDay · 06/04/2018 17:13

Does your gp practice have a treatment room?

moofolk · 06/04/2018 17:16

Walk in or most A&E have a minor injury unit (same as a walk in).

Worth bearing in mind about GP; emergency means needs seeing soon, not just life or death. Life & death = 999.

My GP releases emergency on-the-day appointments with the nurse practitioner and this is for all sorts of minor / immediate needs, I think mainly children.

MadisonMontgomery · 06/04/2018 17:18

I’m not sure if your GP’s would do a minor op on a child - we don’t where I work. Book a routine appt and they will be able to refer onwards.

BertrandRussell · 06/04/2018 17:28

So I’m alone here with my sterilized needle and tweezers..........

BalloonFlowers · 06/04/2018 17:39

Not sure I'd do that either, Bertrand but I do think it's a lot more sensible than the A&E approach.

Fluffyears · 06/04/2018 17:40

My gp surgery do minor operations but they will not touch the face due to scar risk. They can refer you to a plastic surgeon to deal with it. My mum got a small lump cut off her arm at gp but the one on her hairline was a no-no and she got referred for surgery. It’s usually done under a local for something small.

HollowTalk · 06/04/2018 17:41

It's clearly not an emergency, but why would you have to wait six weeks for an appointment? Can't you ring on the day?

Quietlife1979 · 06/04/2018 17:41

bert I have used tweezers before Blush

pilotswife · 06/04/2018 17:44

GP for a referral to a plastic surgeon - it’s her face.

BarbarianMum · 06/04/2018 17:45

No I'd totally do that (frustrated wannabe surgeon). Pulled a large bit of gravel out of ds2's knee once. Very satisfying.

Queenofthestress · 06/04/2018 17:58

I keep topical anesthetic and sterilized tweezers and such for stuff like this
Then again I don't think many other people do, my DP is a pain in the ass for needing stitches and the like
Minor injuries or GP would be your best bet

UpOver · 06/04/2018 18:17

So I’m alone here with my sterilized needle and tweezers .....

I’d use a wee spot of Emla then I’d be at too. 😬
