AIBU about working extra hours and pay?

I used to work full time. I now do part of the same job over three days a week, and we took on a second person to work 5 days a week to do the admin part of my job.
She turned out to be unreliable and has now decided to up and leave with no notice, leaving me with the same job to do in 3 days instead of 5.
I can go in for half days on my two days off. I have been given the option of being paid, or taking extra time off. The second isnt an option as I struggle to do all my work in three days anyway, so don’t need more time off. The thing is from a company point of view, half a day is four hours. I am actually working five hours to try to catch up, plus it’s a half hour drive each way, so I am losing six hours of my day off.
Aibu to ask to be paid six hours if I come in on my day off. Or to ask to be paid for doing my job full time and taking work home with me at weekend to make up the missing hours? (I worked out that I actually do 5 hours unpaid not including my ‘extra’ travel time so technically 3 hours short of. Being full time anyway).

You can't be paid for your commuting time, I'd be very surprised.

OTOH I think carers travelling between patients/clients should be paid for their traveling time.

You don’t HAVE to go in or deal with an unreasonable workload. You can do what you can in your paid hours and notify management that you are overstretched and X,Y and Z isn’t done.

Your employer’s management decisions are not the fault of the admin worker who left: people leave jobs all the time and was she actually on a contract giving her or requiring notice?

Agree that TOIL isn’t appropriate here.

If you actually wish to increase your working hours, and cover admin work again, in the office or partly at home, suggest that. Don’t propose being paid for travel time, that’s unreasonable.

You cant include travel time that just your commute.

You could ask to work from home the two days your off at the momemt and be paid ft wage

Request a meeting and tell them you can’t do it? That’s what employment agencies are here for. Tell them to get a temp in while they find a permenant replacement.

I understand what your saying. Overtime should be paid at a higher rate. You're doing them a favour.

Also another thing to consider when doing extra hours is that you are most probably not getting extra holiday days which go with working more days a week, so a full time will get 20 days but 3 days a week only 12 days, so work will be gaining in that respect also.

It’s not possible for me to go back full time for a couple of months for personal reasons, by which time I hope to have a replacement in being trained up anyway.
My contracted hours are 8 to 16.30: I currently start at 7, and am working through my 30 minutes lunch break, so am easily doing 5 hours unpaid overtime a week.
It’s also not possible for me to do the job from home for two full days, but I could take enough paperwork off the premises to work on for 2/3 hours without needing to access any computers and files etc.

Stop doing the unpaid overtime. Talk to your boss about what can be achieved and how long it takes.

You don't have to do the extra hours. You ANBU to ask for them to pay your travelling time, they WNBU to say no, and YWNBU to not do the extra hours. No harm in trying to negotiate

While you’re doing it all for unpaid overtime, why would they go through the trouble and expense of hiring someone else?

Stop doing unpaid overtime, arrange a meeting to set out exactly what is reasonable for you to get done in the hours you’re paid for, and leave them to find a replacement to do the rest.

Is it your own company? If no what the heck are you doing so much overtime for? Its not your problem that theyve not replaced her.
