Ideas for 3year old birthday party present

DS (just 2) has been invited to his first nursery class birthday party. He's the youngest in his class. I don't know the birthday girl, or her parents. What's the deal with 3year old parties? I'm assuming we stay for the party? Can me and DH go? I will take a present- but how much do i spend? And what do 3 year old girls like?!
Feeling totally clueless!

I would definitely say you stay, spend a fiver at most and books are a pretty failsafe option.

In my experience - definitely stay, both of you if you want but most don't, anything in £5-£10 bracket unless you're rich!
Puzzles, colouring pens (washable), orchard toys, duplo, books, teaset - what would your son like - girls mostly the same at toddler age in terms of interests.

My 3yo loves orchard games- the cupcake game is a favourite and I think they do.mini ones for about a fiver. We have crocodile snap.

Play doh!

I do a £10 limit. Perfect for play dough sets.

Misty9 · 04/04/2018 23:02

I hate play doh. That's what nursery is for imo Grin

GeekyWombat · 04/04/2018 23:30

Yes to books or puzzles.

SweetMoon · 04/04/2018 23:32

You would stay, I'm sure both of you can go. I'd spend between £5 and £10 and I second orchard games. They are fab for boys or girls.

Maximum £5.
Get yourself to B&M. I always found a 'paint your own piggy bank' type thing worked well for this age
Stay if you feel your dc needs that, otherwise take yourself to a close-ish cafe and have a quiet coffee to yourself.

3 year old girls often love dressing up, hats, bags, hair accessories, tiaras. Does Duplo still include chunky furniture for doll's houses? It was a bit big for most actual doll's houses but not as flimsy as most furniture.

I have always had a budget of £10 and looked for something that was robust and looked like value for money. So, for example, twistable crayola sets with colouring book, craft sets etc.

I would add that I never left my children alone at parties until they were school age, otherwise, in my opinion, pressure is put on hosting parents for toileting and safety.

You Choose is a great book. Or Waterstones do nice sticker books. Kids seem to like books/stickers

Absofrigginlootly · 05/04/2018 03:52

My 3 year old DD loves (and I mean loves to obsession) dinosaurs, trains and diggers. She's also very fond of frogs. She adores books.

Nomad86 · 05/04/2018 06:45

Go to wilkos or home bargain and get a big tub of craft stuff.

Winegumaddict · 05/04/2018 06:50

Yes you absolutely stay! I think you stay until they can look after themselves i.e. can help themselves to food. Pop to the toilet etc alone so I guess around school age. A sticker book or similar would be very popular with a 3 year old. It's usually a token present so around £5. They just love unwrapping really. If it's a a venue DH and I both tend to go but at someone's home only 1 of us go as there won't be much room.

Asda and Argos sometimes have two toys for £15. Stock up, this is the start of the party circuit! Agree with stickers and crafts too, doesn’t matter if they already have some. Card Factory do 10 cards for £1 - another place to stock up.

Thank you! Great ideas and advice. I think I'll get her the You Choose book as my DS loves that too or some crafty stuff.
