French translation question - posting for traffic!

Posting for traffic - hope that’s okay! Blush

I was reading an article by the French author Leïla Slimani online on Libération, and the article headline is ‘Un porc, tu nais?’.

Here’s a link - www.google.co.uk/amp/www.liberation.fr/amphtml/france/2018/01/12/un-porc-tu-nais_1621913.

In the article, she writes about how she feels women should feel free to do what they want without feeling threatened by men.

I’m just a bit confused about what the article headline translates to in English.

I know that ‘porc’ can be translated literally as ‘pig’ or it can mean someone who behaves in quite a crude way, as well.

I think she used ‘porc’ here because it links to a French hashtag used on Twitter to torrent the #MeToo movement (#BalanceTonPorc), but I’m not sure what ‘un porc, tu nais?’ means in English.

Is it something like ‘a pig/vulgar man, were you born yesterday?’ (I wonder if ‘tu nais’ could be linked to ‘naitre’, which is ‘to be born’).

Would appreciate your thoughts on what the English translation could be :) sorry my translation’s so basic!!

Thanks :)

Its explained further down the article. She is asking "un porc, tu nais ?" - are men born as sexist pigs? And she argues that this belief is " a horribly deterministic view of masculinity", pointing out the men who have supported her and are sickened by the behavior of her harassers.

Yep, as pp says, "Were you born a (chauvinist) pig?"
