Last week I bought a gift for my niece online. Then I received an email promising me another free one if I gave them a good review. Anyone had this before? Would you give a good review? It has to be before midnight tonight and I won’t be giving the gift until next week so I have no idea if it’s any good. I generally don’t review anything or pay much attention to reviews when I buy. How much do you believe reviews?

Obviously don't do it ShockHmm

Fruitcorner123 · 03/04/2018 19:21

If reviews pop up I would read them and most likely not buy the item if they were mainly bad. If there were a handful of good ones it probably wouldn't sway me either way.

Are you reviewing the comoany or the product. You could put something about speedy dispatch and attractive packaging and not mention the actual item.

CoffeenoTea · 03/04/2018 19:23

what is the item? is it any good? i would do it if it was good. if crap i wouldn't want another

TroubledLichen · 03/04/2018 19:26

I thought you were going to say you were a corrupt traffic cop or something... if you can get away with a truthful review like ‘great speedy delivery, it’s a gift that I haven’t had chance to give yet but it looks exactly as expected and I’m pleased with my purchase’ then I’d totally do it if a free second one would be in any way useful!

AnotherMIL · 03/04/2018 19:29

Confused just no. Do not do this.

smellyhouseelf · 03/04/2018 19:33

A free one would be useful it’s just a kids toy, I would give as another gift to a different child in a year or two. It was £35 so a good saving. No idea if it’s any good, would have to build it to know that. I just feel wrong. But love a freebie!

smellyhouseelf · 03/04/2018 19:34

Those saying don’t do it, why? Because it’s immoral? Or because they’re lying and I won’t get a free one?

OP posts:
piercinggelo · 03/04/2018 19:35

Would you give a good review?

Well that all depends on whether he item was worthy of one.

Deshasafraisy · 03/04/2018 19:36

I doubt you will get the free one but what have you got to lose?

Aridane · 03/04/2018 19:38

Is it ones of those reviews where they indicate the reviewer was given the product for free?

smellyhouseelf · 03/04/2018 19:39

The service/communication/packaging were all good so I can give them a good review but the product I can’t really review honestly until after it’s been given.

OP posts:
smellyhouseelf · 03/04/2018 19:40

No it’s just a normal review on amazon

OP posts:
MadMags · 03/04/2018 19:41

I’d do it!

PoppySeedRoll · 03/04/2018 19:42

I’ve had this on amazon before with skin care stuff. I just give it five stars but write in my review that I got a free one for doing this.

SmallBlondeMama · 03/04/2018 19:42

I'd do it! And if the product turns out to be poor quality then just delete the review.

HerRoyalNotness · 03/04/2018 19:43

Ive read reviews before where they stayed it was for a gift and had not been opened yet.

You could say why you bought it in the first place, good features, bright colours etc... alongside the customer service side of it. And I think you can put that you’ll edit it after it’s been played with and update , I’m sure I’ve seen that too

TheDeuteragonist · 03/04/2018 19:44

I agree with above posters. Give feedback on what you can, but leave any details out about the actual product, just mention it's a gift and hasn't been given yet.

The seller can then choose whether to gift you a complimentary one from your review based on it. If they push you to give anything else, I'd refuse.

Icklepickle101 · 03/04/2018 19:44

I’d do it, even if you don’t get the free one what have you lost?

Idontdowindows · 03/04/2018 19:52

Hang on, so he wants you to give the good review before you've received the item? Noooooo, don't do it!

Viviennemary · 03/04/2018 19:53

If you are pleased with what you've bought then leave the review and get the free gift. . If not then don't. And don't leave a review saying I bought this as a gift so can't review it. It really annoys me when I see this on Amazon.

InsomniacAnonymous · 03/04/2018 20:00

On Amazon I've seen several reviews in which it's stated that the product was free. As long as you're honest when reviewing the item I don't see the problem. Have you received it? If so, you can review speed of delivery, packaging and whether it arrived in perfect condition.

aaarrrggghhhh · 03/04/2018 20:00

It feels wrong because it is wrong. It is lying. Obviously. Would you do it if you were;t being offered something in return?

This has got to be one of the easiest ethical dilemmas ever. It is lying. For £35 or £350,000 still lying.

smellyhouseelf · 03/04/2018 20:07

Yes I’ve received it, and it looks fine. But it’s wrapped up now for a gift to be given next week.

OP posts:
smellyhouseelf · 03/04/2018 20:08

I think I’ll review the service rather than the product, then add in whether it was liked by my niece after she’s played with it. Then it’s all honest and above board. Except the part where I’m being ‘paid’ for a review Confused

Build the toy check it’s good. If it is give a good review and get a second one to give as a gift. If it’s rubbish you are still in the time frame to ask for hour money back and not give a review.
