To ask how much sleep you get?

On average how much sleep do you get every night? And how much sleep do you actually need to feel refreshed?
I probably get about 6 hours per night, but ideally need about 8 hours to feel bright eyed (never get that much though).

I'd like 8-9hrs but for the past 8 weeks it's been 5 or 6 for no reason whatsoever 😢
I toss and turn all night.

WhateverTakesYaFancy · 02/04/2018 07:52

I get about 8 hours weekdays, maybe 9/10 at weekends. 9 hours is perfect for me.

In my baby days I never got used to the lack of/broken sleep. It really affected my health and I am so glad it’s over!

Mammyloveswine · 02/04/2018 07:54

Around 7 hours, usually asleep around 11 and 12 week old has been going through until 6/6.30... sometimes we stay in bed after the first feed and get another hour or two if DH is off and gets up with the toddler.

Dreading the sleep regression now little squish sleeps all night as my toddler didn't reliably sleep through until he was about 14 months old!

saoirse31 · 02/04/2018 07:56

Usually 5 to 6 hrs... Not enough!

GinaLinetti99 · 02/04/2018 08:01

Realistically, I get 7 hours of sleep. Probably 10-6, but with an hour awake in the night with one of the children.

I really need 8 or 9 to feel refreshed. Last month DH took the DCs away for a night and I slept for almost 14 hours. It was very much needed.

feelingdizzy · 02/04/2018 08:01

I slept fantastically last night which shows me how broken my sleep usually is.I'm a teacher so am currently in holidays, so mind is finally relaxing.

Bluesheep8 · 02/04/2018 08:04

9-10 hours needed. Always in bed for 9pm at the latest, I work full time and am up at 5:50. Also sleep for a couple of hours in the afternoon at the weekends. I have M.S and get very fatigued. I need this amount of sleep to be able to do what I need to do in life.

Tinkie25 · 02/04/2018 08:06

Between 6-7 hours. I usually wake up after that amount of sleep no matter what time I go to bed, so I’m guessing that’s all I need.

littlepeas · 02/04/2018 08:06

I used to think I needed 9 or 10 hours, but generally got 6-7 and was always tired. I have stopped drinking alcohol and I now jump out of bed after 7 hours! I was in my mid/late 20’s when I had my dc and coped well with the interrupted nights - think it would be a lot more difficult now, in my mid 30’s. I don’t bounce back as quickly from a crap night, although I haven’t really tested this since stopping the booze - about to hop on a super long haul flight tomorrow, will have to see how I fare!

AnnieAnoniMouser · 02/04/2018 08:08

I get about 4-5 hours of bad quality sleep on a ‘good’ night.

I don’t know what would be ideal, but I’d probably feel less like death warmed up if I got 5 hours decent sleep I expect.

ethelfleda · 02/04/2018 08:08

Nowhere near enough. 5mo ds won t allow it. I only sleep in 2 hour stints max so never feel refreshed.

speakout · 02/04/2018 08:10

Monophasic sleep is overrated.

Ebeneser · 02/04/2018 08:10

I need about 8+ hours sleep. During the work week I try to go to bed for 10 as I need to get up at 6 to walk the dog. At the weekend, now that I’m pregnant and always tired (and can’t drink!), I still go to bed around 10 or 11 and will sleep in until around 8 or 9am. The dog will come up looking for me around 6ish though, but likes having a lie in with me as a treat.
Unfortunately I will always wake up at a minimum once a night to have to wee! Before I was pregnant I slept straight through.
Fitbit usually tells me I’ve had about 6.5 - 7ish hours sleep (even if I go to bed 10-6), as I have to get up a couple of times a night for a wee and must move about a lot in my sleep, so it deducts all those little movements out of my total sleep tally.
I’m dreading the baby coming as I’m apparently a right grumpy bitch if I don’t get enough sleep.

Tisfortired · 02/04/2018 08:11

Approx 7 hours a night, but quite often gets interrupted by 4yo.

On the occasions I do get a full night sleep, I still never feel refreshed. I think this must just be the it is now Confused

EnglishRose13 · 02/04/2018 08:13

@MarthasGinYard
This is how my Fitbit shoes my sleep. I have the Alta. I think fancier models include more detail.

This is a good night for me. I usually get between 4 and 5 hours. I always feel tired. I've always been a crap sleeper.

I usually have a lot more restless moments than that

Do you think that for some reason that’s not properly tracked your sleep? This is my graph from the Alta HR, it seems to be quite detailed in comparison. I assumed all models gave similar info.

WipsGlitter · 02/04/2018 09:05

I need nine hours of good sleep. I get about seven hours of poor quality sleep. I am permanently tired

Grilledaubergines · 02/04/2018 09:06

4 hrs a night, have done for the last 20 odd years.

INeedToEat · 02/04/2018 09:20

I generally get 9 hours a night. Sometimes it doesn't feel particularly good quality and other days I wake up as bright as a button.

Sleep is very important to me (I have epilepsy and MS) so I make it a priority. Sometimes on a Friday I will come home from work (at 3pm) and sleep till 7pm And will still be back asleep by might night at the latest.

Helps the my DC are late teens / adults.

Purplerain101 · 02/04/2018 09:21

@ineedtoeat can bad sleep flare up MS symptoms? My friend has recently been diagnosed and she’s always been a terrible sleeper

OP posts:
INeedToEat · 02/04/2018 09:53

@purplerain101

Just like people without MS poor sleep quality and quantity can impact on daily living (causing daytime sleepiness, decreased concentration and memory, worsening depression, and the inability to work effectively). MS effects individuals so differently, but yes, lack of sleep can make symptoms particularly fatigue, much worse.

The MS actually caused my epilepsy and it is definitely worsened by lack of sleep.

stargirl1701 · 02/04/2018 10:50

Not enough. Pre DC I slept around 12 hours a night. Always have throughout childhood and adulthood.

I now get about 6 hours a night. I live in a brain fog with zero energy. I could cope on 9.

Ellapaella · 02/04/2018 13:24

I go to bed around 10.30, read until around 11. I get up at 6.30 for work/school run etc. Often I am woken in the night by youngest ds or the dog needing to go out for a pee (still a puppy). I'd say average around 6.5 hours of actual sleep, which is broken sleep. I need to get up to use the toilet at least once as well. DH and I take it in turns to lie in on the weekend.

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 02/04/2018 14:13

about five hours broken due to dc2 (8 months), sometimes a lot less. I really need at least seven.
