I don't want to worry your fluffy little heads:

The irony here is I do have a law degree so would be deemed to be 'qualified' under Soluna's definition, but I appreciate that loads of MNers without such formal qualifications have a far better understanding of this piece of legislation and it's ramifications than I do. Making up some arbitrary threshold that posters must meet in order to have an informed opinion is just a way of silencing those that disagree with you

Soluna I don't really understand why you would bother posting on a forum that you have such a low opinion of to be honest.

And I think she's right

The thing is though:

The LGBT Lib Dem person is WRONG about what they have stated about the GRA changes and it's simply about getting a birth certificate.

I've asked you before:

Do you know why getting a GRC is different to getting your gender changed on your passport?

@ morningrunner

Pop off and report, if you think I'm a sock puppet. 😀

MPs don't write law, people with law degrees don't write law, it's a very specialist and complicate task carried out by Parliamentary Counsel, instructed by senior civil servants.

Acknowledging that drafting legislation is a specialist task, doesn't silence anyone. No one has to meet any threshold to post on MN but it's dangerous to claim that a group, any group, have specialist knowledge, when they don't.

@still screaming I have a law degree, but thanks for explaining that MPs and lawyers don't write laws. Hmm I didn't make up the arbitrary definition of who was deemed qualified, it was Soluna who you declared was intelligent, logical and non reactionary in your previous post.

Stillscreaming · 02/04/2018 13:16

So only parliamentary counsel are sufficiently qualified to comment on legislation?

Comment away, you're as entitled to an opinion as anyone else, but understand the difference between having an opionion and being held up as an expert.

There may well be legal experts in Mumsnet, there may be experts on drafting legislation on Mumsnet, there might even be really well informed unqualified people but none of those things makes Mumsnet, as a group, a place that should be consulted about legal changes. As individuals, we can do all of the normal things open to those in a democracy, join groups that can lobby for us, write to MPs, decide to vote for one person over another. Howeve, it's unreasonable to expect to be given more consideration than anyone else but dint of being on the same message board as someone else who might, or might not, know what they're talking about.

I think you've posted on the wrong site. Surely the above were meant for the LibDem MP who appears to think in fact that he does draft legislation and has the specialist knowledge to do so. Wink

I'm not entirely sure the person who wrote that tweet is an MP - there aren't any trans MPs, are there?

The person who wrote that tweet then explained about their personal trans journey.
