Armed police at Paddington station today - AIBU to ask if anyone knows why?

I was going through Paddington station earlier, and there were armed police in the station and by the underground entrance. Anyone know why?

I’m at Paddington quite a lot (at least a couple of times a week), and this is the first time I’ve seen armed police there.

VIP? The documentary about Paddington Station last Monday showed police, some armed, when Harry and Meghan were travelling by train.

I don't use Paddington much but see armed police regularly at Kings Cross and Euston.

I assume it's an efficient place to hang out and let lots of people see you?

They are there every time that I am…. I don't think it is for or because of me though

Its a major public holiday with lots of crowds. We did Alton Towers last year and there were armed police there and bag searches.

I've seen them at King's Cross station a couple of times. I was surprised the first time.

I live nearby. Usually means a VIP is arriving by train. The car and security pull up at the side entrance and the VIP is hustled out, it's all timed to the second. Could just be stepped up general security as well but every time I have seen them it's been a day VIP is coming.

I was to see armed Police at Lakeside , we've been going there since it opened , it never occurred to me it wasn't 'safe' .

I go into another major station and always armed police there - about 10. Been like that for a year or so. When loads more appear its normally a security alert.

I see them most days at Waterloo, think it’s general heightening of security.

It's very usual, even in the eighties Paddington was a security hotspot with the police station/ IRAterrorists

70isaLimitNotaTarget I saw some armed police at Lakeside last summer. It really scared me. I assumed it was to do with the three terrorist attacks in quick succession, didn’t realise it was a regular thing.

See them at Victoria all the time. Don't really clock them at major train stations anymore, it seems normal. Outside Canterbury Cathedral recently I was a bit more surprised.

They're at all London stations, there are masses of armed police at Waterloo station every week.
Major bank holiday so there will be a high visible presence in London and most major hubs I should think.....

See them at St Pancras regularly.

Frequently see armed police at both Edinburgh and Glasgow stations, used to bother me but not now!
