Just come home from my mums funeral , had 200 well wishers so very busy , but the whole day I didn't feel upset, or cry or anything. I think I may be numb to misery now!
I actually found it quite enjoyable in a way, seeing everything completed. Aibu to think it's maybe just me that thinks this?!

Thanks

I know exactly what you're getting at - at the end of the funeral there's a comforting closure that you've said goodbye.

It does make sense. It can feel like you are on a bit of a treadmill between the death and the funeral. It’s a stressful time.

Do watch out for a slump in a few days. Sometimes when you really need people is after the funeral when reality sets in. Everyone else is getting on with their lives as before but yours has changed.
Flowers sorry for your loss.

I too am odd. I love a good funeral. Quicker than a wedding. People dress better, generally no children, there's usually a good spread, the bar is free and you can actually talk to people without enacting semaphore over a disco.

No - I found my DM's funeral cathartic too. So many people there who loved her.

Flowers for you OP because now the funeral is over, you have to get used to living without her. I found 6-12 months the hardest part but everyone is different. Take good care of yourself and stay close to people who care about you Wine

So sorry about your mum Flowers. I don't think there's any normal way to feel about death and funerals. Whatever gets you through is right for you.

Totally understand. At the end of Dad's funeral my cousin said "Uncle J would have really liked this". It was so comforting. As a pp has said, the slump afterwards can be dreadful. Take care of yourself. 🌷

I felt similarly in similar circs. Glad it went well OP Flowers

Not only you I think, and not at all strange. Funerals should be a celebration of a person’s life and they are about remembrance and revisiting happy memories.

You often hear people say things like they wouldn’t want ‘a fuss’. But funerals are for those left behind too, and they are an important part of the whole grieving process.

I’m sorry about your Mum, and am glad you had a positive feeling about this sad day.

I felt similarly after my mum's funeral.

There was about two weeks between my mum dying and her funeral and I felt like I was in limbo the whole time, it was a horrible feeling. After the funeral it felt like I had some closure.

I did feel very upset and down a few days later though as life went on and everything was carrying on as before but it would never be the same for me without my mum.

My mums funeral was the highlight of the weeks/months after her death. I planned it, I felt as if she would've liked it, the place was lovely, the celebrant was great and the music was her to a tee. I sobbed and sobbed throughout, but it was a positive experience.

Almost a year on, I still feel comfort when I think of the funeral. I'm glad your mum's funeral was positive for you too, OP. In such a dark time, it's important to hold on tight to things that give relief from it Flowers
