To ask WTF I do about restless legs?

29 weeks pregnant this weekend and every time I try to have a rest, or go to sleep, my legs develop a mind of their own. I just want to stretch them out constantly, but doing so makes absolutely no difference!

Surely there's something I can try?! I've tried walking lots to tire them out - nope. Warm bath - nope. Elevating the feet slightly - nope. It's maddening!

Oh it's a horror show isn't it OP.

I find lying my bare legs on a cold floor like bathroom or kitchen works

biscuitmillionaire · 31/03/2018 17:55

I really recommend iron supplements. Definitely helped me.

Magnesium spray works like magic on my restless legs. You can get it from amazon

jamoncrumpets · 31/03/2018 18:02

Had a blood test last week and my iron levels were really good

I've got restless legs and never been pregnant.

I had blood tests 3 months ago and they were fine. My GP has put me on pramipexole which is also used for people with Parkinson's. Rare side effects could turn me into a shopaholic, gambler or a sex pest or all three Confused.

After 5 days I don't get the itchy twitchies at 9.20pm but my partner said I'm still kicking about in my sleep but not as much as before.

It's usually a deficiency of magnesium as other posters have mentioned. I got some dissolving tablets to boost my levels.

One thing that helps me is to stand on a stair with just the front part of my foot and hang my heels over the edge. Then very gently bounce and stretch the calves.

Ah pressed enter too quickly - foods rich in magnesium - unfortunately mainly nuts, but wholegrain breads and leafy greens like spinach are rich in it too.

Nounicornshere · 31/03/2018 20:33

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I was recently prescribed Pramipexole which is usually for Parkinsons sufferers. Don’t know if you can take this when pregnant?

I also find hot water bottles deviate my mind.

Magnesium spray

crazyhouse123 · 31/03/2018 20:40

I get restless legs, it's horrible.

And I find the best thing is having an orgasm. Seriously! And strangly enough I read somewhere recently someone else saying it helped their restless legs too.

Maybe the other suggestions are better and more practical and I will give some of them a go...it's not always practical solving them my way Smile

jamoncrumpets · 31/03/2018 21:03

I'm really tired so I'm going to have a mini can of tonic water now, let's see if it works...

Magnesium helped me loads, I got a gel from Holland and Barratt.

Also, cold salt water on feet, ankles and calves. I went padding in the sea a few times (this time last Yr)

Everything else - exercises, bananas etc - didn't help me
