To take my laptop to starbucks

lots2doooo · 31/03/2018 08:29

I have a lot of work to do.

I need WiFi

Would it be unreasonable to occupy a seat in Starbucks for most of the day?

Well, for most of the day, then yes, for a couple of hours, not really.. That does make you one of those annoying people. I would say you need to buy something every hour at least if you do go. If you do then please a. leave if it gets busy and b. sit on a small 1/2 person table. It is so frustrating to take your family out for treat at a coffee shop and find all the larger 4-6 person tables taken up by a one person with a laptop and paperwork.

Findingdotty · 31/03/2018 09:27

Also have you heard of places called libraries....free wifi, seating, and some have cafes now too.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 31/03/2018 09:28

The grump who eye rolls if anyone with a pram or child dares to be in their vicinity

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 31/03/2018 09:28

I recommend the Buttermilk chicken and Mango salad, it's lovvvvely! Grin

viques · 31/03/2018 09:28

If you went to IKEA with a family card you could get wifi, free coffee and a little lie down on a bed when you got tired.........

Grin

You would need the concentration skills of a shaolin monk though, especially on a bank holiday weekend.

Bouledeneige · 31/03/2018 09:29

I regularly do it on a Friday as do all the other regulars. I have a coffee and a toasted sandwich, a second coffee and sometimes my DD joins me for lunch too. So they get good business out of me. It might be harder on a Saturday as it might be quite a bit busier.

NC4Now · 31/03/2018 09:30

Go for it. I regularly work from coffee shops, just for a change of scene.

Raven88 · 31/03/2018 09:32

No, I would do the same if I had that type to work to do.

I see it all the time.

turnipfarmers · 31/03/2018 09:32

Yes, most of the day is very unreasonable.

JessieMcJessie · 31/03/2018 09:34

Didn’t JK Rowling write most of the first Harry Potter in various cafes around Edinburgh?

FleurDelacoeur · 31/03/2018 09:36

I'm freelance and work at home. When we had building work done I just couldn't get anything done at home with the disruption.

So I spent a lot of time in the local Costa, and other places which had free wi-fi. You have to choose your spot though, if you end up in a noisy coffee shop with lots of noisy toddlers or screeching teens then you get nothing done anyway. But as long as you're buying coffee and food, they'll be happy to let you sit (until your laptop battery runs out).

lots2doooo · 31/03/2018 09:37

Library closes at 12. My house is noisy.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 31/03/2018 09:41

Yes go to Starbucks everyone works there for day, they’ll be used to it

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 31/03/2018 09:45

Noisy kids,Screeching teens? Yes it’s a coffee shop.
Most irksome in the coffee shops are the tutty eyerollers who think it’s their office and demand a quiet environment for calls and working.

pinkdelight · 31/03/2018 09:50

It may not be cool, but I find Wetherspoons surprisingly pleasant to work in. Not drinking booze, but if you get one of the booths, there's plug sockets and they cater from breakfast to dinner with a steady flow of soft drinks in between, no music, and friendly staff. No hassle from other punters either. Quite a convivial atmosphere!

SarahSellsSeashells · 31/03/2018 11:08

And further on from PinkDelights post, you can get the Wetherspoons app now and order your food and coffee from your booth and they bring it to you. So you don’t have to faff going to the bar whilst keeping an eye on your stuff or lugging it all to the bar.

safariboot · 31/03/2018 11:34

To people saying library, good luck finding one with long opening hours on a Saturday! They're being cut and cut and cut.

Starbucks and co want you to spend hours there on the wifi! It's part of their business model, get you to hang around so you buy a second, third, etc. drink.

BikeRunSki · 31/03/2018 12:45

Buy drinks, and beware that they sometimes have a 2 hr parking limit.

Notevilstepmother · 31/03/2018 13:47

I tend to work in pubs rather than coffee shops, waiter/ess service is easier than leaving stuff unattended while you go to the counter, and you are taking up a table at the pubs quiet time in the day rather than their busy time.

(Probably not good today though as it’s a weekend and a bank holiday.).

QuinionsRainbow · 11/04/2018 13:41

At risk of raising a zombie thread:

I've never found Starbucks particularly quiet, especially on a Saturday.

DGRossetti · 11/04/2018 13:49

Also have you heard of places called libraries

Ours is open 9-1 and 2-5 every Tuesday. That's it.

This is in a city ....

TheDairyQueen · 11/04/2018 13:57

YABVVU. People that park their arses all day, generating no or little income and hogging tables gets right on my tits Angry

DullAndOld · 11/04/2018 14:02

Just do it. Buy one coffee and nurse it for hours. Do not feel guilty ffs, it's Starbucks.
Obviously i wouldnt suggest doing that in a nice independent cafe, but Starfucks and Costa and Caffe Nero are fair game. Ditto Pret.

windchimesabotage · 11/04/2018 14:06

Costa and Starbucks make all their money from people who do all dayers with their laptops!! Costa have the right idea about it because they put their large coffees in a really flat cup so they go cold really quickly. You cant nurse one of those all day so you have to top up a few times in a medium cup!

Large starbucks stays hot for ages so if you wanna do it on the cheap starbucks is my wifi pick!

dinosaursandtea · 11/04/2018 14:13

I work in Starbucks around once a week. Buy a few coffees, stay for a morning or afternoon - why should people who want to come in and chat for an hour over one coffee get priority?!

@Bertrand, your dd is BU. Spoon’s breakfasts are rubbish these days!
