Ring 111 tomorrow for bartholins cyst?

I have a painful bartholins cyst. I've had them before. It's not huge but hurts a fair bit. It's quite uncomfirtable to sit down!

Normally I wait them out and they're better in a week or so. One wouldn't clear up a few years ago so I got antibiotics which sorted it out.

The problem is I fly to America on Monday. I don't want to end up needing to see a doc over there. Chances are it'll be fine and will clear up in a week or so but...

I'm not normally one to waste nhs resources or time but would I be unreasonable to ring 111 tomorrow to see if there's anywhere I can get antibiotics from just incase? My gp won't be open over the bank holiday weekend. I just don't want to end up in the USA needing antibiotics. I would probably not take the pills but would keepbtgem handy incase I need them when over there. Help.

I would ring 111 or go to a walk in clinic. I’ve has a few of those cysts and couldn’t imagine a long haul flight with one. Definitely take the antibiotics if given!

Yanbu. Much better to get it as sorted as you can before travelling.

Would you have to declare it to your travel insurance just in case?

maskingtape · 30/03/2018 20:26

Thanks. I'll ring tomorrow. I hadn't thought of that cornetto. I'm not sure.

Not a doctor but I lance them myself for instant relief. Normally apply a hot compress which brings them to a head after a few hours and then quick stab with sterile needle. The puss should come out in the same way as squeezing a spot, disgusting but very satisfying l.

maskingtape · 30/03/2018 21:16

I can't reach it properly and it would be too sore to lance it anyway.

Definitely definitely definitely see out of hours doctor! Oh god, speaking from experience, I left mine too long and it got impacted. I thought I was going to die from the pain. I'll take childbirth again thanks!

WheresTheHooferDoofer · 30/03/2018 21:21

I had one, had been given anti Bs, but it burst. It was in a position where I couldn't see it properly, so got myself sat down with a small mirror to help me squeeze all the pus out. I couldn't believe there was so much. I carried on with the anti Bs anyway, as you're supposed to complete a course, aren't you. Never had one since.

WhoWants2Know · 30/03/2018 21:23

I'm sure I may regret asking, but what does it mean if it's impacted?

peacheachpearplum · 30/03/2018 21:31

I called out of hours doctor about a similar problem the morning we were going away. He accepted that I knew what it was and e mailed a prescription to the local pharmacy. Half an hour later I had the anti biotics.

user1471501171 · 30/03/2018 21:32

Seeing as you are going away it would definitely be worth getting an antibiotic. In the meantime you could get some relief from sitting in a bath as hot as you can tolerate for at least 30mins, longer if you can. If you have any Epsom Salt add a handful too. I have managed to sort a cyst out with that before. But definitely get an antibiotic too though.
Good luck and hope you enjoy your holiday.

Why bother waiting tomorrow. You can use PushDoctor online they will prescribe you what you need although there is a fee, of course, as it's private.

maskingtape · 31/03/2018 09:58

I'd never heard of pushdoctor but I've registered with them and have an online appointment at 10.30. Thanks.

Well I'm sorted and have amoxiclan. I've decided to take it and not just hold onto it incase as I want it gone!

Pushdoctor were pretty good. There was a mistake when they sent me 2 texts to say my prescription was ready to collect at 2 different pharmacies 9 miles apart. Luckily it was at the nearer one.

It was £20 for the online appointment, £8 to get a prescription and £6 for the actual antibiotics. £34 is much cheaper than I imagine it would be in the USA if I'd got caught out!

Thanks for recommending them.

Hope it does the trick.

Thanks

No worries glad you got it sorted.

maskingtape · 01/04/2018 20:32

It's given me such a dodgy belly. Going away tomorrow. Ahhhh. I've had 2 probiotic drinks today but nowhere was open to go to a pharmacist. I probably have time in the morning but don't know what they can do. Cyst no smaller but less painful.

Antibiotics give me a horrible tum as well. There isn't much you can do at this stage, either persevere or stop taking them.
