To call for MN's help in a war against litter

We are drowning under a sea of litter. Councils are having their budgets slashed and to be honest I would rather they spent money on social care than cleaning up after lazy idiots!

If you are going to a park, walking a dog or visiting a local beauty spot this Easter jump on Amazon and buy yourself a litter picker (they cost as little as £6). Take a carrier bag with you and pick up some litter as you go IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE!

Judging by the amount of litter on every roadside I've ever walked or ridden along (from narrow country lanes to fast dual-carriageways), most people seem to hang on to their litter to dispose of on the journey home. Footpaths are no better, they are full of little plastic bags of dog shit.

Count me in.I already do this on a regular basis and was chatting to a retired lady out with a litter picker the other day at how we despair at the huge amounts of litter and the mindset of people who drop it ,often with a bin in sight ,or from the car when the rest of us take seconds to empty rubbish into our home /work bins at our destination. Agree up to a point about councils, however I don't agree with changes implemented at our local tips, making disposal of building materials and DIY so much harder. The massive increase in fly tipping as a result is soul destroying. And whilst I can bag up a bin liners of ordinary rubbish in no time how the heck can we deal with huge rolls of carpet,a broken wardrobe etc ?

On my way to work I see so much litter in the hedges and verges. This isn't where people walk so it must be from being thrown out of car windows. It is so sad. I do pick some things up at times, especially on beaches. I once had to take a carrier bag of chip rubbish to the bin as it had just been left on the beach by the sea wall. Ffs you walk past the bin to get off the beach.

How about council actually impose litter/dog poo fines? That would be a massive money boost.
They could train volunteers to do this, a lot of people would be willing to patrol areas, especially where they live.
