To ask if you leave a carrot out for the Easter Bunny?

We had a meeting yesterday at work and one of the guys said he needs to pop to the shops to buy a carrot to leave out for the Easter Bunny.
The rest of us hadn't heard of anyone doing it before! He's not local so perhaps a regional difference, I'm not sure.

Anyway, do you leave a carrot out for the Easter Bunny in the same way you would for Rudolf at Christmas? And how does the Easter Bunny get in? Does he also hop down the chimney, or perhaps sneak in through the cat flap?

Is he Dutch or German? It seems to be a bigger thing on the continent.

Not for the Easter bunny it isn't. It's for the horse that St. Nicholas rides across the rooftops to deliver children's presents on 5 December.

Hare on the stair is genius! Quick! Trade mark!🐰🐰

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 29/03/2018 23:27

No. We never did the bunny as kids and I didnt realise that some families do it like Father Christmas. I’m afraid I rather spoiled the experience for DSS when he was about 6 Blush

My mum does an Easter egg hunt and the kids school did some Easter bunny thing, but we don’t reinforce it or anything.

ObiJuanKenobi · 29/03/2018 23:29

@DianaPrincessOfThemyscira I wouldn't worry it seems from this thread very few families do the Easter Bunny at all! I think we will give it a miss too BlushGrin

I think if you left just a measly carrot for the Easter Bunny he would be mightily pissed off. Santa gets a mince pie and a glass of sherry/scotch. The least the Easter Bunny should get is a slice of cake and a glass of wine.

ObiJuanKenobi · 29/03/2018 23:35

Perhaps some carrot cake and a spiced fruit cocktail ?

No but that's because I had pet rabbits as a child and know rabbits couldn't give a shit about carrots. On the other hand dandelion leaves are like rabbit crack. So we started the tradition of picking a bowl of dandelion leaves before bath time on Easter Saturday and leaving them for the bunny.

buckbeak · 29/03/2018 23:35

I leave a carrot out Blush have done for as long as I can remember. The kids also make thankyou cards for it to take too Grin

Dixiestampsagain · 29/03/2018 23:37

Nope. Don’t but into the whole Easter Bunny thing at all. I’ll do F.C. and Roth fairy but never the bunny. It just doesn’t make any sense to me...why would a rabbit bring eggs?!!

Katedotness1963 · 29/03/2018 23:42

Never heard that and the Easter Bunny has been coming to our house for 18 years.

ObiJuanKenobi · 29/03/2018 23:44

@buckbeak are you the wife of my colleague!? He's a lovely tall blonde chap Grin

Never heard of that.

I think we might have to do this this year. DD is 5 and Very Excited about the Easter Bunny. She has already asked about leaving a carrot out. I'm totally mystified as to where all this has come from. The Easter Bunny wasn't something I did as a child, nor DH, so it's not something we've particularly mentioned. We do an Easter egg hunt, and she just seems to have come up with this whole... mythology...by herself. I wonder if it's something she's picked up on from the American kids shows she watched on Netflix? The Easter Bunny seems to be more of a thing in the States.

buckbeak · 29/03/2018 23:56

@ObiJuanKenobi no unfortunately not Grin

myusernameisnotmyusername · 30/03/2018 00:00

DD's TA told her the Easter Bunny brings chocolate to the good kids (like Santa visits the good kids) so now I have to play along!

Puffycat · 30/03/2018 00:07

No never left anything for the Easter bunny, used to leave a carrot out for Rudolph which I would eat half of and spit on for reindeer slobber, glass of whiskey for Santa was always taken care of by DH

SmileyBird · 30/03/2018 00:07

No

ladyglittersparkle · 30/03/2018 00:19

Our eggs come from the Easter Bunny and he leaves little ones to find outside in the garden too, but have never thought to leave him a carrot. A think I may start to though DD would love it 🥕

lookatthesizeofmylaundrypile · 30/03/2018 00:22

We've been doing the Easter Bunny thing for 30 years here (England) I can't believe so many people on Mumsnet don't know about it. I never met anyone who's not heard of the Easter Bunny.

ALittleAubergine · 30/03/2018 00:23

No, we don't do the easter bunny thing. Mummy and daddy hide the eggs, kids find them and that's it. Still seems to be fun for them.

ObiJuanKenobi · 30/03/2018 00:23

@lookatthesizeofmylaundrypile I have heard of him/her just not leaving a carrot out Grin
