To think watching what you eat is boring?

I've been calorie counting, for weeks now. I've lost loads of weight and I'm slimmer than I was pre pregnancy.

But oh my goody gumdrops, there's so many calories in everything and I never realised before how it all adds up.

For example, a Boost chocolate bar is about 250 calories, that's about 1/5 of my daily allowance! Add a packet of crisps or something else small on top and you're at serious risk of going over.

Quite literally, the odd treat or slightly unhealthier meal takes up a huge proportion of my calorie allowance. Like the mock chicken wrap I ate yesterday, Hmm

It's boring.

I think it's shit that I can only eat one chocolate and then have to be careful with absolutely everything for that day.

I miss junk food, will I ever stop?

I'm slimmer. I look great, I look trim. I'm eating the right foods that are good for me, in the right amounts and having treats in complete moderation. The foods I'm choosing do fill me up at the time.

But I felt happier and more fulfilled when I wasn't watching what I ate!

Once I started focusing on my health, rather than losing weight, everything became much easier. I don't count calories at all, but aim to eat a very healthy diet and I have stopped drinking alcohol. The weight loss is slow, but sustainable and I feel loads better. You do need to make permanent changes - there is no point being bored and hungry all the time to achieve a certain weight, only to pile it all back on because you've had enough of being bored and hungry and end up going back to your old ways.

TakeMeToTheFresh · 29/03/2018 16:17

littlepeas I've already ticked one box, as I don't drink! And my portion sizes are generally very small

I'm finding the permanent change thing really difficult and I don't know how to do it. Because to me this is a permanent change, it's just one I'm miserable at (currently)

Lovely username by the way Smile

I wouldn’t say boring, it’s just about focus & mindset.

ReanimatedSGB · 29/03/2018 19:10

I don't want to 'make permanent changes. I enjoy booze, chocolate, fryups, roast dinners and everything else. I have never been offered a single 'good' reason for changing my eating habits - just bullshit about how 'being thin feels wonderful' and 'waah but your health!' My health is all right. I will die of something at some point. So will the rest of you, no matter how much kale you make smoothies out of and how much money you give to scammers and con artists. I'd rather have a good time while I'm here.

@sharkirasharkira I feel like I'm really putting the whole unlimited pasta and potatoes thing on Slinnung world to the test. I'm hitting them HARD. If I still lose weight it must work somehow.

Weight management is all about giving yourself more years of healthy, active life.

My 50th birthday headed into the rear view mirror a few years back

I want to avoid

  • diabetes
  • heart disease
  • alzheimers
  • dementia
  • severe arthritis
  • osteoporosis
so I watch what I eat

I think its worth it (5:2 makes it a lot easier though)

BitchQueen90 · 30/03/2018 19:13

I always find the idea of calorie counting odd, like a can of diet coke has less calories than a banana but a banana is obviously better for you. That's why I refuse to do it. I know what foods are good for me and what aren't, and I'll eat the ones that aren't in moderation but no way am I counting bloody calories.

VinoISVeritas · 30/03/2018 19:29

For me, life’s too short for watching what one eats.
As long as you enjoy it, and get as much exercise as possible, balls to it, I say!

TalkinPeece · 30/03/2018 19:30

bitch
I do MyFitnessPal for a week or two every couple of months

If you are already pretty slim its not relevant
but for those struggling to understand how they became overweight
its utterly essential
sadly

Bluntness100 · 30/03/2018 19:48

I agree it can be dull. I eat low carb. My diet is very healthy, vegetables, salads, meat, eggs, cheese, nuts, there is an endless variety. I seldom have cravings for crap. My alcohol intake is moderated and I'm way happier in my skin being slim than I am being overweight. When I'm overweight I don't like how I look and I also worry as I hold weight on my tummy and I know that's very unhealthy. I go to the gym most days.

I have the occasional " treat" so I don't feel deprived, but sometimes, just sometimes, I watch others eating crap and I think I can never really let myself go like that and wish I could. It can be dull.

Bottom line is I don't like being fat much more than I don't like eating healthily. So I'd rather eat healthily. Others feel the opposite, they don't like eating healthily more than they don't like being fat. So they will eat as they please and will remain over weight. It's simply a personal choice. It's the old "pick your hard" thing.
