Mis led on what new car can do, WWYD?

I was fed up with only being able to connect one phone to thr Bluetooth in my car, so when. I was buying my new one, I made to sure ask how many phones you can have connected. I was told 5. Great. Collected car on Sunday.

Turns out that while you can pair up to 5 phones with the car, only one can be used at any time. This is no good to me as I have 2 phones I need to be able to make and receive calls on when I’m driving.

Dealership are just saying it is what it is, and I guess that’s true, but I’m left with a car that fundamentally doesn’t meet my needs.

What would you do? What do you think my options are?

One of the problems is that technology moves more quickly than cars are built. About ten years ago, I bought a new car. I wanted to be able to link in my brand new iPod. Turns out the latest iPod (at the time) was too modern for my car. It ended up with the dealership paying for an old iPod for me as they’d told me it would work!

Paired =/= connected.

As previous posters have said, simply divert one phone to the other.

Job jobbed.

Singlebutmarried · 27/03/2018 20:59

Both our cars ‘talk’ to both phones.

Not sure how many they will work with but fine for two.

thecapitalsunited · 27/03/2018 21:00

DHs car can have two phone shots paired at then same time. When we are both in the car then calls to both phones comeback through the cars speaker system. You can only control one at a time but can switch between at them touch of a single button.

Op when I had 2 phones (work and personal), I forwarded calls from my personal phone to my work phone every morning and if I recall, I had it set up so that it was a couple of button presses. Texts on my personal phone weren't urgent because my nearest and dearest used my work number during the day anyway.

I don't think you can use 2 phones consecutively, even if they're paired.

TattyCat · 27/03/2018 21:03

I don't think you can use 2 phones consecutively, even if they're paired.

Ok, scrub that, I'm behind the times! Not difficult, these days Grin

Duck90 · 27/03/2018 21:04

Tatty , my car allows both to work consecutively. Think it was luck in car purchase. As many don’t seem to be able to.

Crispbutty · 27/03/2018 21:09

Our new all singing all dancing stereo is meant to pair both our phones but it doesn’t and it seems to confuse the stereo too.

AnnieOH1 · 27/03/2018 21:20

My current and last BMW both do, you can add phones and list primary etc, they'll all connect into i-drive and operate from there.

mikeyssister · 27/03/2018 21:22

We have a cheap clip on the seatbelt loudspeaker that allows two phones to connect and work at the same time. Cost €20 in a hardware store.

It's brilliant.

Bojangles33 · 27/03/2018 21:30

Why on earth do you need to be accessible on 5 phones? Are you a drug dealer?

twinone · 27/03/2018 21:37

It would have been cheaper to buy a dual SIM phone than a new car.

rjay123 · 27/03/2018 21:39

Get a hands free device for one that plugs into cigarette lighter?

lampygirl · 27/03/2018 21:45

My E class can pair multiple devices so I use 1 for Bluetooth audio (no sim blur iTunes) and 1 as phone but as my work phone includes personal allowance I don’t bother carrying 2 anymore so no idea if you can phone with 2 at the same time.

DairyisClosed · 27/03/2018 21:45

There simply aren't any cars that can do that so there isn't really much of a point giving it back but if you wanted to you can still give it back with 2 weeks for any reason.

EggysMom · 27/03/2018 21:45

OP, could you have one phone connected through the bluetooth to the built-in unit, then another connected by bluetooth to a standalone unit attached to e.g the visor?

bungaloid · 27/03/2018 22:02

It is perfectly possible to simultaneously pair multiple devices over Bluetooth, if the system supports it.
You do have some protection regarding unfair trading practices - i.e. you specifically asked for this functionality and it hasn't been delivered. What the burden of proof is I'm not sure. It could appear a bit OTT to attempt to reject the car on this basis but theoretically I think you could try.

pigshavecurlytails · 27/03/2018 22:05

get a clip on one, pair one phone to that and one to the car

Duck90 · 27/03/2018 22:27

dairyisclosed that is incorrect, as myself and others have said , their cars do!
