To ask why people do this!?

I'm feeling a little anti social today, a bit down and just want to be by myself.
DH has kindly taken the afternoon off work and is having a movie afternoon with the little ones and I've driven down to the beach to just sit in the car and watch the world go by. It's raining or I would go for a little walk.

Anyway, the car park had a few cars dotted about when I got here so I parked at one end where there were no other cars, about 20 empty bays next to me.
Someone's just come and parked right next to me, and has her window cracked and is having a really loud phone conversation over the cars speakers. I can hear every word.

Why do people do this, there must be 70 spaces free.
It's like when people come and sit next to you in a train/bus when there's loads of free seats.

I know I'm being ridiculous and it's not my car park and I can always move, she has every right to park wherever in the car park..etc but blueeeeergh I think maybe I just needed to rant Blush

I'm sorry you're feeling rubbish. I hope some time away helps and that the other person goes soon. X

They buggered off and now the sun is poking through. I feel much better already.

Thank you Thanks

Your not alone OP, Sometimes I do this and it really annoys me when people pull in next to me also, I hope you have some lovely food, drinks and a book or mag and can sit in your car for peace for a little while.

Time away does you good, even if its half an hour or the entire afternoon.

Lethaldrizzle · 27/03/2018 14:14

I'm more amazed that your dh takes the afternoon off work because you're feeling a bit sad! Lucky you Smile

ObiJuanKenobi · 27/03/2018 14:16

Haha we both work flexi time mostly from home so he'll have some admin bits to do from the laptop tonight now instead, please don't think he's left his workplace high and dry because I'm feeling down Blush

Maybe the other person is really bad at parking, and needed to park next to you in order to use your car as a guide to line up in the space?
I’m quite short, and find it hard to see the ground immediately over the bonnet or boot to spot the white lines below. I often find I’ve parked a bit off centre between the lines, but another vehicle gives me a visible marker at eye height. Just a thought!

As a seaside dweller it's never too wet for a walk + a bag of chips!!

PrettyLittIeThing · 27/03/2018 14:24

I don't drive but wow yeh the bus one really annoys the heck out of me I honestly don't know why people do this. Someone don't it with my dd the other day, loads of free seats yet sat right next to her and I just thought why Confused

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 27/03/2018 14:24

I had similar rage this morning OP. Huge car park, I'd just got back to my car and was chatting to DD about something when I noticed a car indicating to pull in to my space Confused WHY???? And I wasn't brave enough to sit there any longer so actually rushed myself to pull out of the space so they could go in it!

I hope you're feeling better soon Flowers

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 27/03/2018 14:24

Should have said there were loads of empty spaces including one the other side of me and a whole row behind Grin

DairyisClosed · 27/03/2018 14:28

This annoys me to. I think that they just can't park properly and use other cars as a guide

UpstartCrow · 27/03/2018 14:37

I hate it when people do that, sometimes you just want solitude or head space!

fannyfelcher · 27/03/2018 14:40

I'm sure there is an actual science behind why people park near the only car in a massive car park. Its something to do with how/why we choose which cubicle to use in public restrooms. In toilets if there is 3 loos, the one closest to the door would be the least used, the one farthest would be the second used, and the middle the most popular ( and therefor the dirtiest and is likely without loo roll). The first toilet is too close to the door and so a majority of people will subconsciously avoid it as it the most "at risk" while in a vulnerable position with your pants down. The far one would seem antisocial and so the middle one is the choice a majority make. I always use the closest to the door ! I am sure parking has a sort of "safety in numbers" approach for single women but obviously if its a lunch time tryst then they are going to steam the windows up as far away as possible.

The80sweregreat · 27/03/2018 14:45

Dont know, but doesnt matter which aisle i'm in in the shop or where i park i am immediately surrounded. We do live in a busy town though.
I do feel your pain, but glad she drove off!

WeaselsRising · 27/03/2018 14:45

Somebody did that to us in Asda yesterday. Loads of empty spaces but I'll just squeeeeeze in between these 2 cars. We moved.

Ariela · 27/03/2018 14:51

sparepantsandtoothbrush this is the point I get out of the car and lock the door and walk off (for a while to the car has gone)

MaudlinMews · 27/03/2018 14:51

It's called the herd instinct. We are social animals and the need to gather is overwhelming except for me as I love my solidtude Grin

I've noticed the total opposite. At work, for example (on all three floors), in a row of three cubicles, the closest toilet is the most frequented, followed by the end toilet, with the middle toilet being the least popular. I've always assumed it's because people don't want to pee right next to somebody else and leave a "polite gap".
