To claim compensation from Sharps Furniture?

Terrible job to fit wardrobes with many faults which they have agreed to rectify. They have stated they don't pay compensation but will in my case but only once I have signed off as satisfied with the job.

AIBU not to sign until compensation agreed, and AIBU to ask if any of you lovely lot have received compensation from them?

What are you after compensation for? Hmm

AudTheDeepMinded · 26/03/2018 21:35

Inconvenience and waste of time. To remedy the problems I have had to email and phone the company, wait in for a rep to come and inspect the work. Now have the prospect of moving all my clothes etc out of the wardrobe again so that it can be rebuilt and having to move bed etc again. And the implication seems to be that compensation will only be forthcoming if I sign.
The wardrobe was not cheap, a couple of grand, and something that has been saved for and anticipated. I made a choice to use a company that guaranteed 'showroom' quality ad that has not been the case.

I'm not sure what they would compensate you for? As long as you get the product you've paid for, and are not out of pocket, I would imagine that's all your entitled to expect from them.

Wildsargassosea · 26/03/2018 21:49

not sure you’ll get anywhere but I’ve gone right off Sharps and won’t be using them again.

Foodylicious · 26/03/2018 21:53

I think they will give you a grsture of good will for the inconvenience, but doubt their legal team will allow compensation.
So I don't think you will get wanting or can negotiate before the job is signed off.

If you refuse to sign off they likely will not give you anything and I doubt you will have a case to take any further than another complaint which might get you an apology.

Sorry they have been pants

blueskypink · 27/03/2018 08:20

I get you've been inconvenienced but not in any major or unusual way really. What sort of compensation are you expecting?

Pfftkids · 27/03/2018 08:24

I got a bunch of flowers for the carry on they put us through, took nearly a year to get them fitted properly and all the snagging work fixed. Never buying from sharps again

Roussette · 27/03/2018 08:27

Do you still owe them money? If so, keep holding it back. Then sign it off.

If you've already paid (doubtful if it was faulty) don't sign anything until it is remedied

Violetroselily · 27/03/2018 08:34

Sorry but I had to laugh at “Now have the prospect of moving all my clothes etc out of the wardrobe again”

How ever will you cope...?

greengrass1234 · 27/03/2018 08:59

They are such twats but clearly sell wardrobes worth £300 for £8000 so it's to be expected. Can't fathom why anyone would use them but anyway...

I wouldn't sign anything off if I wasn't pleased with it

What would they compensating you for? You’ve had to let them back in one extra day and move your clothes one more time? The wardrobe hasn’t fallen on you and injured you.

Unktious · 27/03/2018 09:23

You. Could sign it off but write your issues in the form. I often do this. Ie if it says sign here if completely satisfied. You sign but write that you have reservations and are not sure about the standard of the work. IYSWIM

We have had compensation from Harveys for shoddy furniture - they told us their industry’s ombudsman has a formulae ised to work it out. We eventually settled on 4th sideboard and second dining table - think in total we got about anout £400 for a £2000 dining set.

AudTheDeepMinded · 27/03/2018 09:59

Thanks for all your replies, even the snotty ones! (You obviously don't value your time and right to good service as much as I do). I think I will see what they are offering by way of 'compensation' before signing. BTW I don't think they would even be offering it if I was being soooo unreasonable, do you?

@KirstenRaymonde yes because that visit happened by magic with no input or inconvenience to OP Hmm

AudTheDeepMinded · 27/03/2018 10:04

Bishop absolutely, it's not like I had other things I had to do that day. I loved sitting in waiting!
