LBTQI+

I am used to LGBT but not at all sure what the new letters stand for:

Lesbian, Bi, trans....something maybe?

It is on a website I am reading and from context I think it is there instead of the LGBT I am used to.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transexual, then Queer, Intersex and ‘others’ who may identify outside the considered norms but don’t fit into one category.

dementedpixie · 26/03/2018 15:09

Queer, intersex? No idea tbh

HollyBayTree · 26/03/2018 15:10

Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex (LBTQI)

I thought Q was for questioning, but I may not be right!

MorganKitten · 26/03/2018 21:43

LGBTQQIAAP stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, Allies and Pansexual, with all others under the umbrella of Queer.

Ohyesiam · 26/03/2018 21:44

How is queer different to gay?

Greenhouseonthehill · 26/03/2018 21:45

I’m interested in how queer is different to gay.

StickThatInYourPipe · 26/03/2018 21:45

What is an Allie?

whichwayisitnow · 26/03/2018 21:59

It's like watching Countdown Grin

MorganKitten · 26/03/2018 22:19

Allies/Allyship: The action of working to end oppression through support of, and as an advocate with and for, a group other than one’s own.

Queer: One definition of queer is abnormal or strange. Historically, queer has been used as an epithet/slur against people whose gender, gender expression and/or sexuality do not conform to dominant expectations. Some people have reclaimed the word queer and self identify as such. For some, this reclamation is a celebration of not fitting into norms/being “abnormal.”

WeAreEternal · 26/03/2018 22:42

It’s questioning not queer.

MorganKitten · 27/03/2018 00:22

There’s two Qs one for both Queer and Questioning

Puffycat · 27/03/2018 00:26

Surely this is taking the piss!?
I have my head in my hands!

calzone · 27/03/2018 00:28

Whichway......that’s made me snort 🤣🤣🤣🤣

BringOnTheScience · 27/03/2018 00:42

As a parent of a B and a Q... I don't care what bundle of scrabble letters they choose: they're my kids and I love them.

DC1 chooses Queer because that's easier than gender-neutral pan-romantic assexual.
