I'm worried, onset of confusion, lethargy and excessive thirst

So past few months I've been feeling so exhausted that I barely leave the house unless I have to. Ive cut from working full time to four days a week and now have cut down to 3 days starting in April. Still I'm so exhausted all the time.

On top of this I'm so thirsty all the time and nothing seems to quench it. I've lost weight but always feel hungry so am probably eating more than I used to but what is worrying me more is my mental state. I'm forgetting things from one minute to the next, I'm stuttering all of a sudden and can't think of the right word to say when speaking. I've just been trying to make a GP appointment and for s few seconds, I couldn't remember my address. Yesterday I couldn't remember my date of birth (and I'm only 36!). I've just been driving down a route I do weekly and all of a sudden I felt like I was in a completely new area, it was weird, I didn't recognise any of it for a few seconds and had to follow my sat nav but it's an area I know well.

I'm shitting myself. Booked in to GP tomorrow but before then, can anyone take a guess or has anyone experienced this? I'm a nurse so really need my head right. I've noticed I'm cocking paperwork up a lot lately, patients drug cards are full of crossings outs where I've wrote in the wrong box, but date where data should be etc etc. I'm half tempted to go on sick until I know what's up before I make a big mistake. I was in trouble recently for not doing the stock check on controlled drugs I was using so it looked like stuff had gone missing. I don't know why I didn't do it, it's supposed to be second nature

Sorry, missed that you are a nurse.
In that case, make sure they check vitamin d, b12, folate and ferritin, as well as the usual stuff in blood tests when you go tomorrow
Could be diabetes insipidus,

sadie9 · 26/03/2018 12:15

Did you cut your working hours solely because of this tiredness or for other reasons, what else is going on in your life at the moment? Like have you had a bereavement in the past 6 months for example.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 26/03/2018 12:19

Definitely worth checking for diabetes, which can be easily rules out, as can iron deficiency. Is there any possibility you could be depressed? As you probably know, that can present as tiredness, not feeling up to much, inability to focus, change in eating pattern etc.

You might want to ask for a smear and a test to check your hormone levels.

goose1964 · 26/03/2018 13:03

It could be perimenopause, that can start as early as your 30s

Quick update, got dr appointment in an hour. Feel terrible. Really spaced out. Keytones in urging this morning, just a trace at first but when I checked the test strip 10 minutes later it was almost on the top marker for keytones. Blood sugar first thing this morning before food or drink was 4.9mmols so sugar levels seem ok.

I'm getting chest and stomach pains. Wish I'd called in sick today as not sure how I'm going to carry on until 5pm. I fell asleep in the bath last night, woke up when I went under so going to avoid the bath for the time being. I feel so tired I could cry.

Is there any chance you’re suffering from anxiety? That can lead to many of the symptoms you’re describing

FairiesVsPixies · 27/03/2018 13:48

Good luck at the drs OP. Let us know how you get on FlowersCakeBrew

rainbowruthie · 27/03/2018 13:54

Good luck with your appointment Flowers

make sure they check your thyroid levels

user365241987 · 27/03/2018 21:36

How did you get on today OP? I also thought you sounded overloaded and understandably stressed. Hope your appointment was helpful. Flowers

freakydeakydo · 27/03/2018 22:40

Have you lost weight? Has your skin changed colour....more tanned for example? Are you craving salty foods?

I know someone with Addison's Disease and wondering if you're in he same boat.

Would definitely get checked for diabetes as well

Supermagicsmile · 27/03/2018 22:58

How are you now op?

Jon66 · 27/03/2018 23:02

Sounds like an infection.

Stormwhale · 27/03/2018 23:07

Hope you are ok, I'm not surprised you are so worried. Flowers

JustVent · 27/03/2018 23:08

How did the appointment go?

t1mum3 · 28/03/2018 08:20

I commented on your other thread but pleased to hear you have testing kit and your BG is normal. Try a test two hours after eating as the fasting glucose is the least useful for T1D.

TooGood2BeFalse · 28/03/2018 09:22

Hope you're ok OP Flowers

CampariSpritz · 28/03/2018 09:28

Good luck OP. I hope you can get a quick diagnosis. I’d echo the other posters who have suggested you go on sick leave. You don’t sound well enough to be working. I’m always one for struggling on, but but that is daft if you could potentially put yourself or a patient at risk.

JuniperBeer · 31/10/2018 17:24

@pissydressinggown how are you now? Did you get to the bottom of it?
