AIBU to use two sinks?

This is a daft one, really I'm just after tips.

When in a public restroom I wash my toddlers hands by sitting her in the middle of two sinks, washing her left hand in the left sink, and her right hand in the right. It means I'm hands free to actually operate taps, press for soap, dry her off etc. I've never done it unless there are other sinks available.

Today some old woman had a major huff at me for using two sinks, some other woman agreed. AIBU to do this (yes, probably)? More importantly, how else are you supposed to do it without doing your back in holding them up to the sink?!

I’d say as long as no one is waiting to use one then it’s up to you what you do and you’re not doing any harm...some people just like to moan 😫

Wet wipes?

ButchyRestingFace · 25/03/2018 17:02

I have never encountered anyone doing this before. I can imagine people looking askance but I doubt I'd say anything unless there were no other sinks free.

What did you say in response?

If she's already sitting up there, why can't she twist around (with you wedged up against her, of course,) and put both hands in the one sink?

I used to lift my leg, brace my knee against the unit, and sit dc astride my leg. With one of my arms on either side while I operated taps etc, they were perfectly safe.

Seriously sink designers need to cop on! Or provide stools

Butchy I didn't say anything, I was flabbergasted. Ridiculous situation anyway as there were loads of sinks to the right of us, but she came out of the loo on our left and clearly didn't like that she had to walk a bit.

Jellyslice Yes, that's how we started. My daughter just sort of lumps over my arm and hangs there. It's doable, it's just that my way is so much easier on me for us.

...you give her a sink for each hand??

IfYouDontImagineNothingHappens · 25/03/2018 17:17

Just ignore them, they've got two much time on their hands.

I sometimes perch my toddler if it's dry on the side, sometimes hold her like a rugby ball. Sometimes I kinda have to wedge her.

It's a total pain in the arse. Even the kids sinks are too high for a two year old a lot of the time.

That can't take any more of a minute - YANBU - although it's an inventive solution (I did the hoik up and balance on knee thing too)

I think that’s genius! As long as the countertop isn’t wet, I’ll be doing that in future.
