To wish radar keys weren't necessary

I have intermittent fecal (and urinary) incontinence. Today is one of those days. I barely made it to the loo in time. On these occasions I usually use a disabled loo as a) they tend to be closer and b) they have sinks and more room to help with clean up.

Due to the urgency issue radar keys are just so inconvenient! I haven't actually got one yet (on my to do list) and trying to find an employee with one takes ages, time I rarely have if I need to use the disabled loo.

AIBU to wish dickgeads wouldn't abuse disabled loos do that radar keys weren't necessary?

I completely agree, but more annoying to me is that you don't actually need to be disabled or need the extra facilities to get a radar key - they are sold online to anyone who wants to but them. Reckon that makes the whole scheme completely pointless!

On the plus side, you can buy them off amazon for £2, so actually getting one is a very minimal outlay!

And maybe it does make the scheme “pointless” but I mainly think it deters the casual user who doesn’t need them while allowing anyone who does need them to access one, whether or not they feel able to go through their GP, for example.

They're toilets that have been adapted to make it easier for disabled people to use, they're not toilets for the sole use of disabled people, everyone is free to use them.

x2boys · 25/03/2018 09:11

How do you judge who should use them? I bought a Radar key from Amazon my son has autism and learning disabilities and wears nappies we need the space but you wouldn't automatically think he was disabled ?

I know how you feel re radar keys as well.

Can i tag along to this one of these www.bladderandbowel.org/help-information/just-cant-wait-card/

It doesnt guarentee getting to use a toilet which isnt normally for public use but explains easily its a medical condition and is urgent without embarrassment.

I'm aware of this. But the dickheads I'm referring to are the ones who graffiti them, smear shit on them, leave used condoms, vomit and half eaten kebabs. Not those who actually use them for their intended purpose, disabled or otherwise.

Agreed. There’s a doc on iplayer about homeless women in Brighton and I was horrified when one of the women said they all go to the disabled toilet to shoot up, and that often they have to wait for other junkies to finish.
It must be so scary for people who can only use those facilities to never know what they’ll find/if it will be in a useable state.

My mum is disabled now and has continence issues. The amount of disabled toilets left in a mess is shocking. I've walked out of so many as refuse to let my mum go there
