To be sick of dh being on his f-ing phone

I took him and dd out for food. I entertained dd while he sat on his phone.

The food came, he ate it, whilst looking at his phone. I waited for him to talk to me. He didn’t.
I paid. We went to my parents where he sat on the sofa on his phone.

My mum and I fed dd, bathed her, and brother in law popped her to bed. He really had done FUCK ALL parenting today.

He went to bed just over an hour ago. Apparently he’s exhausted. From working a full-time job. Just like I do.

Do you ever sit and wonder just wonder wtf is your life ?

I know I do.

I know the feeling but I won't have it at the table and I don't care if I'm "nagging". I want him to set a good example to my DD as I don't want her on her phone at the table when she's older.

Agree with the phone thing, husband does it all the time. First thing in morning, before bed, when home from work. I make sure I never look at my phone at times like that, when I bring it up he’s confident I do it too! Oblivious! Have you asked him to give it a rest?

karmacoma1 · 24/03/2018 23:05

I’ve tried requesting. I get an almost Kevin the teenager response. It’s just exhausting.

Totally agree! My DH is constantly on his fucking phone. I've said no phones at the table as I want to set a good example whilst DCs are young, DH mainly sticks to it but sometimes gets it out and I have to point it out, or the DCs will. He gets them ready for bed, standing in the hallway barking orders whilst looking at his phone. We're in the car (me driving), he's on his phone. Go out and about, the phone will repeatedly come out. Does my fucking head in. I've said it sets a bad example and there is no need to be on it as much but he still does it.

We will have a hard time saying to the DCs not to he on it 24/7 when this is the example they are set.

Get a box by the front door, when everyone comes in all phones go in there until on the way back out or for an hour an evening.

Extreme measures but would make him realise how much he's on it.

Strippervicar · 25/03/2018 09:30

Yep. Another H here who does it and doesn't seem ashamed about it. He is quick enough to tell me so I tell him to stop every time I catch him. Yesterday we were paying for my MOT with DD in tow. I was listening to the man tell me why it had failed. DD fingering everything on the desk. What was he doing? Looking at his phone. I just said to him in front of the mechanic. 'Put your phone away please." I get a typical teen response. But surely, I would be so embarrassed to have that happen to me in front of someone else. He doesnt seem to care. Ugh.

shesakeeper · 25/03/2018 09:35

My DH is the same. Yesterday we went out for lunch and a walk with DS, he spent the entire lunch on his phone and most of the walk sat in the sunshine playing on his phone. He claims it stops him feeling panicky, but I think it perpetuates it tbh. He feels panicky without it because he's on it so much.

Savvyandchips · 25/03/2018 09:41

Me too. Dh is constantly on his phone. Plays this stupid transformers game constantly. Causes so many arguments. Truth is he'd rather play on his phone than play with the kids. I feel your pain op!

SophieGiroux · 25/03/2018 22:47

Unfortunately I think this problem is only going to get worse in the future

candyloves · 25/03/2018 22:49

Yanbu

BakerBear · 25/03/2018 22:49

Same here!

Whisky2014 · 25/03/2018 22:51

I'm always on my phone!

londonmummy1966 · 25/03/2018 22:56

I was really ill and had to be admitted to hospital. DH drove me in and between the car park and reception the phone came out....

He is better now as we have teenagers and a line has to be drawn with them and he has to observe it too.

Arapaima · 25/03/2018 22:58

YANBU. No phones at meal times - it's just rude.

Turkkadin · 25/03/2018 23:04

I find this baffling. What is he looking at on his phone that is so fascinating that it takes precedence over giving his little girl any attention? This constant obsession with looking at mobiles seems to have reduced grown men into bloody 14 year olds. This is how my 2 teenagers behave. I hate seeing this when I'm out. Men who have their children with them yet can't be bothered to even say a word to them.

Turkkadin · 25/03/2018 23:05

This is shitty behaviour and I would be allowing it.

Turkkadin · 25/03/2018 23:05

I meant I wouldn't be allowing it!

Puffycat · 25/03/2018 23:12

Shove his phone up his arse
That’ll get his attention

GaraMedouar · 25/03/2018 23:16

My ExP was always on his phone. Really irritated me. He would sometimes be answering me whilst looking down faffing with his phone. I refused to have a conversation with him if he was more interested in the phone. We are no longer together (ok, other reasons too than just the phone!)
If I ever date anyone again , the phone will be a big issue. I don’t want to go out for a meal with anyone staring at a phone - that’ll be a red line for me.
With my teenage boys they know no phones at the table.
