Tax credits

Sorry for the AIBU but I can't find a suitable place to post for traffic.
Thinking of moving in with my in-laws. I can't afford to rent my home anymore and financially it makes sense. Will moving in with them effect my tax credits claim. I won't be applying for housing benefit or anything. I currently get housing benefit and tax credits but my rent is very high hence the decision to move in with them. Thank you

No it won't make any difference, only moving in with a partner affects tax credits.

MyDcAreMarvel · 23/03/2018 18:07

Although you say in laws, does your partner live their? If they do they you will need to make a joint claim.

MyDcAreMarvel · 23/03/2018 18:07

Ahh there!

Shouldileavethedogs · 23/03/2018 18:09

No he doesn't live there. He has his own house and has the children with him half the time. I get on very well with his parents and they're very supportive.

Is he your ex or current partner?

Avasarala · 23/03/2018 18:46

As long as you're still living as a single person, then you can house share and it won't affect it.

Shouldileavethedogs · 23/03/2018 18:57

Hi. He's my ex. He's very much involved with the children. I was worried tax credits would ask for my in laws financial accounts etc.

I moved in with my parents for a bit. Didn't affect a thing. All they ask for of your info and the info of a partner if you have one. Don't worry about to. Live wherever is best for you.
If you moved in with the children's father, they'd never believe it to be a single person claim so just don't do that!

Shouldileavethedogs · 23/03/2018 19:45

Couldn't move in with him. We get on very well but god no. Haha.

You might want to check that...
Changes in circumstances including a change of address can switch you on to Universal Credit (if your in-laws live in a UC area). It won't matter if your partner is there or not.

MyDcAreMarvel · 23/03/2018 22:52

How many children do you have op?

Shouldileavethedogs · 24/03/2018 07:39

I have three on my claim
