To be worried about acid reflux?

Posting here for traffic. Anyone given birth with severe acid reflux? I’m so scared.

I’m getting NO sleep. Due to be induced next week (with twins). I’ve got a cough and terrible sore throat from the acid. I’ve severely reduced my diet to just bland foods and water. I’m on gaviscon and prescription ranitidine.

Every few hours I’m choking on my own acid and unable to breathe. Its like my throat is in spasm or closing. It’s really scary, like I’m drowning or choking... hence the lack of sleep. I’m coughing up really thick saliva in huge quantities and narrowly avoiding bringing up vomit. I’m utterly miserablewith this.

Has anyone given birth or had a c section under these circumstances. I’m so worried about it because I had wanted to go in to this feeling well. Instead I’m exhausted, scared, with pain in my throat like you wouldn’t believe. I feel really broken and petrified at the thought of giving birth with this condition.

Hi, poor you, I had severe reflux with last pregnancy and was living on gaviscon and spearmint rennies. It seemed a bit better just before I gave birth. I think the midwife gave me some ranitidine when I was in labour.
When I worked in labour theatre the anaesthetist used to make up a cup of ranitidine and give it to the ladies before c-sections and we would prop head up with a wedge cushion so they weren’t laying flat. That was a few years back now though so has probably changed. Good luck sweets

I am so sorry you feel like this but there are solutions i think you should consider trying if at all possible. I am 39 weeks pregnant and i have suffered with very painful and aggressive acid reflux. Gaviscon is the most temporary of cures and doesnt work during the night for me.
Only thing thats helped has been a prescription of Omeprazole which is safe to take in pregnancy. Its the only thing thats stopped the crippling heartburn and the nightly choking on acid in my sleep which would keep both me and hubby awake all night.
Omeprazole has saved me. I cant believe the difference after the first capsule. I have zero acid now...even though im still suffering sickness, no acid seems to come up with that either so its been a massive win win.
If you cant get to the doctor, it can be bought over the counter at pharmacies but they are not licensed to sell it to pregnant women (even though yes it is completely safe) so if u cant get to a doctor to get a prescription, just do what i did and send hubby to buy from a pharmacy for u.

Hope this helps, my heart goes out to you, it is the worst thing in the world especially during the night.

Been to the Dr? Omoprezole (sp?) sorted it for me. A magic pill!

was also going to suggest omeprazole instead of ranitidine - much more effective. By previous gynae consultant told me it's safe to take during pregnancy

Before my CS, the anaesthetist gave me a magical potion to drink to prevent reflux during surgery. I never found out what it was, but it made it all disappear. I was the most comfortable I'd been in months! So yep, they will do something to help if you end up in theatre.
