To Probably Not Cook Roast Lamb On Easter Sunday?

I have the same thing each year - all the Easter ads come on the tv & I start to feel pressured to shop for a lamb joint, invite half the neighbourhood & decorate the house with bunting & fluffy chicks! But hopefully if the sun shines, I will be out with my family & not wanting to be bothered with cooking.

SeriouslycanitgetWORSE it's beyond gruesome.

I worked as a parent helper as school when my kids were young ( not a faith school).

Local clergy would come in regularly to speak at assembly.
I remember one Easter assembly, the last day before the holidays, there had been an easter egg competition, kids had made easter bonnets and all the kids were in a happy upbeat mood.

Then the dog collar started to speak. He gave a very graphic description of the crucifixion and the events leading up to it.
He talked about the crown of thorns making huge holes in jesus's scalp, the blood flowing so freely that jesus was unable to see because of the blood in his eyes.
Some of the kids ( as young as 4) started to cry.
Dog collar went on to describe the nails hammered into jesus's hands- only not the hands as the weight of his body would tear the flesh right through ( glares from teachers at this point.
No the nails were hammered through the wrist bones ( some children had to be led out at this point) and the blood was dripping down onto the dust.
" And all this was for you".
By now half the school was in tears.

" All your fault"

How lovely.
School finished that day in a very melancholy mood.

Pupils thinking they had caused the torture and death of someone.

Totally agree it's too much although some older dc love gruesome tales! Too much for four, five, six year old.. No need to go into such grim details at all, sounds like he was getting off on it.

We are going to my parents, DM will probably make a multilayered vegetable pie (traditional Italian thing)

And I'll make chocolate cake.

We might even attempt to take toddler DS to mass.

Ironically it’s probably the worse time to have lamb as it’s out of season and at its most expensive. Yanbu

I'm racking my brains trying to think how my Catholic primary told the Easter story...as all I remember is decorating boiled eggs I think they sensibly didn't do it in much detail with the younger years.

I liked the pentacost/holy spirit story.

Never thought about it. I am not English but live in the UK. I cook whatever I fancy on th day and don’t cook if I don’t fancy it. I guess I am not very good with all this traditions

Not doing lamb. Will either go for carvery or make a pasta bake. Life's too short.

My ex was brilliant at cooking roasts but I always get the timings wrong
