Just done something stupid / how to put it right

N/C for this and I've done something wrong, please don't attack me I need help knowing what to do now as I want to put it right.

I have a LOT going on in my life which is affecting my ability to think straight which is why I have done the wrong thing.

I was just reversing from a local convenience store and I banged a car opposite with my tow bar.

Checked for damage and I don't think I did any. The car was quite bashed up with bad paintwork all over the back.

Was in a hurry as got an urgent personal issue to attend to so drove off. Someone saw me and agreed that I probably hadn't done damage. But they may well have taken a picture of my car.

I know I've done wrong and should have gone into car and let insurance sort out. Now racked with guilt.

What can I do to put this right. What will happen if someone took photo of my car/ me?

Please don't bash me I've got enough going on at the moment as it is...

Report it and see if anything comes of it. I've been on the receiving end of damage from some driver who reversed into my car and clearly decided it wasn't worth leaving details or making it right.

Maybe if you've got so much on your mind, it's not the wisest thing to be handling a vehicle. And I don't mean this as a troll-ish dig...I'm serious. As someone who suffers quite severe anxiety, I make decisions about when I drive and when I take public transport because when you are driving, a split second if distraction is all it takes to kill someone. Sure, I would rather always drive cause it's more convenient, but sometimes it's not safe...I think we could all do with re-evaluating our fitness to drive when we are in certain frames of mind!

I rolled into someone years ago. Waited a few hours and then reported it to my insurers. They said it was fine to have waited to see if the driver had reported it but I'd done the right thing by then ringing in. Nothing ever came of it.

wrenika, thanks I am fairly sure I'm safe to drive. It was just one of those things.

It was the way I reacted due to pressure that I was more concerned about than my driving ability but I do understand your point.

You have done the right thing OP. People really do get prosecuted for failing to report an accident so it’s always worth doing ifbyou haven’t exchanged details at the time.

CandleWithHair · 21/03/2018 19:34

I did something similar OP. My little plastic car crumpled like a leaf but the tank of an Audi I bumped was absolutely fine. I left without a note, but then worried in case of a witness and did as you did and reported it to the local police station, who looked utterly baffled as to why I would bother.

GabsAlot · 21/03/2018 20:07

i dont know why they were baffled candle

happened to me they sent police round to other owners house for not reporting it

LemonysSnicket · 21/03/2018 20:08

I reckon they’d have tried to get you for the other damage. So I’d have done the same if not visible damage.
