To be shocked/worried at the Transactivists treatment of this woman?

Wobbleslikeaweeble · 21/03/2018 14:52

This trade union member had to be removed from a picket line by the police for her own safety when she was confronted by Transactivists as shown by the footage.

Her crime seems to be that she attended a meeting held to discuss proposed changes to the current GRA and the new proposals for self identification.

Am i the only one that finds that his behaviour shocking? This is just one of several recent incidents where women have been threatened, and even attacked for trying to speak up or just attend a meeting.

Holy shit. That's full-on.

TheButterflyoftheStorms · 21/03/2018 15:02

Couldn't play with sound (small person in the room). What happened? ?And is her Union supporting her?

Wobbleslikeaweeble · 21/03/2018 15:14

Thanks. I think it’s important to get this where all members can see it.

Shocked? No, after what they did Maria and what they're doing now it's only going to be a matter of time before they start beating women up.

Every time I bring up www.terfisaslur.com people go "oh, but those are the exceptions!". No, they are the same kind of men who are attacking women who won't indulge their delusions and fetishes.

Women are going to be killed over this, mark my words.

Juells · 21/03/2018 15:28

But...but...but...a lot of those shouting are WOMEN. Why would they do this to another woman? Is it some weird kind of sucking-up-to-men, or trying to be right-on, or Stockholm syndrome?

picklemepopcorn · 21/03/2018 15:33

They remind me of the women drawn to psychopaths. They seem to want to lose themselves in the cause of a misunderstood man.

Ihatemyclients · 21/03/2018 15:35

How can you possibly think you're the only one when there are 32 new trans threads a day on MN...?

Teenytinyvoice · 21/03/2018 15:36

And yet a trans women on radio 4 this morning claimed there was no evidence of violence against women carried out by trans activists

Wobbleslikeaweeble · 21/03/2018 15:41

Too be honest, not long ago i totally and unquestioningly supported “trans rights” and would have looked at any naysayers as bigots or ignorant.

Many of these young femsle TAs will be or have been students i guess, where this is the ideology being taught to them. Their peers, their lecturers - the no platform information etc. Now trans organisations are teaching this same ideology to young children in primary school.

Well they must be blind if they have been following the debate and claim there has been no intimidation or violence.

I do think Emily Brothers is blind, Wobbles.

As in actually blind.

I know what you mean though.

Astrabees · 21/03/2018 15:52

I was very concerned that the trans woman on radio 4 this morning kept saying the other woman in the discussion (who was a woman in the sense that she was born a woman) was transphobic every time she disagreed with her. She did not seem at all interested in discussing the Difficult areas of the matter, including men who identify as women being in women's changing rooms and just went on and on about how it was the trans women being abused and threatened. I was driving to work with a lot of other things on my mind so sorry not to be able to give a very detailed account but I felt very worried about what was said and felt uneasy, which is not like me at all.

picklemepopcorn · 21/03/2018 15:54

Wobbles, I could almost buy into reducing gender segregation. If the school was considering moving toward allowing all students to change together, supervised by a male and female teacher, because we shouldn't be ashamed of our bodies, then I could see a rationale. Not a popular one, but a rationale none the less.

To separate by gender except for a few, and the many are not allowed to b uncomfortable is nuts!

chocolatesun · 21/03/2018 15:56

I wonder if the individuals in the video are just a handful of extremists and that their impact is now blown out of proportion. I worry that some of the interest here on mumsnet is mixed in with a bit of moral panic... and emotions are getting whipped up. The women in this video look like the usual bunch of rent-a-crowd protesters. Appalling behaviour but not unusual or very remarkable. Frankly I’m not shocked

Juells · 21/03/2018 15:59

Frankly I’m not shocked

How would you feel if a black man was on a picket line and a bunch of "bunch of rent-a-crowd protesters" attacked him in this way? Is it OK because it's a woman?

CadyHeron · 21/03/2018 16:00

YADNBU. It's awful. I never usually go near the feminist boards but have recently on finding stuff like this out.
So many women (and men!) in RL too with no clue to what is going on.

Idontdowindows · 21/03/2018 16:04

She did not seem at all interested in discussing the Difficult areas of the matter

That is because these men and their supporters are not interested in discussion. They are interested in forcing themselves where they are clearly not wanted.

chocolatesun · 21/03/2018 16:08

Juells? I’m not saying their behaviour is ok of course it isn’t. I don’t really understand your comment about a black man but it’s probably not helpful. Your reply helps to make my point by showing how emotional this is getting. My comment is just that the video seems typical of how protesters with extreme views behave towards those with different views. I think they’re being given too much credit. I don’t condone their pathetic behaviour. they seem like the usual rent-a-protester idiots than jump on whatever issue is in fashion.

Wobbleslikeaweeble · 21/03/2018 16:18

This goes further than just a few outliers being overly vocal when you look at no platforming, Labour condoning their members compiling hit lists of “transphobic women members” and recently Bristol University’s SU voting to ban gender critical feminists. www.telegraph.co.uk/education/2018/03/01/bristol-university-students-seek-ban-terf-speakers-question/

"look like the usual bunch of rent-a-crowd protesters"

The picket line in question was outside a cinema which has ongoing strike action regarding the level of wages paid to staff. It had nothing to do with transgender issues. Why were the TRAs there? Perhaps the cinema had transgender staff who they were supporting in solidarity but why turn on another member of the picket line who is supporting the same aim (ie better wages for the staff)?

Popchyk · 21/03/2018 16:25

Pretty unusual to target someone merely for attending a meeting about women's rights.

And then turn up a week later with a crowd in tow in order to shout abuse at her on a picket line. Blatant harassment and intimidation.

Ricky Gervais has gender critical views as part of his new show but no rent-a-mob turns up to hassle him while he is working. And Ricky Gervais has much more media reach than Paula Lamont, therefore should be a greater target for trans activists you would think.

That's because these people only ever target women.

The person accused of the previous assault on Maria MacLachlan was there again, verbally abusing Paula Lamont.

SuitedandBooted · 21/03/2018 16:37

For those who want to know what the Radio 4 programme mentioned above said, it's on;

BBC IPlayer

Today Programme, starts at 2.38.40

Features:

Emily Brothers, Labour Politician, and one of the VERY small number of Transwomen who have actually undergone surgery.

Lucy Massoud, a London Fire Fighter, Union Official and a lesbian - and definitely not a middle-class pearl-clutcher.

Makes for a very informative listen, and one of the rare times that the presenter actually allows the guests to speak without interfering.
