To think they've got my due date wrong?

I am absolutely certain of all my dates and have myself down as 15 weeks and 1 day, due 10th of September. I had a scan two weeks ago, they struggled to get measurements but got roughly 13 weeks 1 day or 13 weeks 4 days. I was certain I was 13 weeks 1 day so that was fine. Another scan today and in the last two weeks I seem to have jumped forward by an extra week and they've put me at 16 weeks 1 day, due 3rd of September. Head circumference was measured at 16 weeks but thigh bone was 15 weeks. Baby was in an awkward position again and sonographer really rushed through my scan, I was in and out in minutes. I'm completely certain that she was wrong.

Do they check measurements again at the anomaly scan? I can't remember from my last baby. If not, wibu to ask them to check again? I'll only be 19 weeks by then, but 20 according to last scan. I don't know how big of a deal it is if they're a bit off with the date but I'm really hoping to go in to labour naturally this time and feel like I've just lost a week of that being able to happen. They'll have me at 42 weeks when I'll only be 41 Sad

Normally (at least in our Trust?) they take the EDD from the 'dating' scan which happens roughly between 11-14 weeks and ignore any dating changes from the anomaly scan or any other scan you might have.

They don't usually change the edd unless it's considered to be out by write a lot (over a week I think?) But if your concern is re a natural birth, then relax - even if you do go over your date (yours or the hospitals), you can't be forced into having an induction Flowers

The way it's been explained to me (and I'm not a medic so this may not be right) is that dating scans aren't even really attempting to tell you when you actually conceived, but medics have a pretty good idea of how a baby with a certain set of measurements at once stage should go on to develop through the pregnancy. It doesn't really matter if those measurements line up exactly with the number of days or weeks you know you are, so long as the doctor knows what the baby looked like at the scan.

There's a lot of MNers on donor conception threads, where we all know exactly when IUI or IVF was carried out, and people still often end up with a 'due date' that doesn't tally with when conception must have happened.

You have the right to make decisions about your medical care so dont have to be induced at their def of 42 weeks. Bear in mind though that even if you know the date you had intercourse you don't necessarily know the date of ovulation if fertilisation as these are individual to people and cycles

This was my dating scan. As they couldn't get the measurements exactly accurate, I had to go back for another two weeks later. That's when they gave me my EDD.

Last baby was induction followed by emergency c section so they won't let me go much over this time in case of complications. Which is why I'm so intent on getting the right date and not happy with it being off by a week.

Personally, I think it's definitely possible that they can get dates wrong.

During my dating scan for my current pregnancy, the sonographer put me at 10 weeks ish. I know for a FACT that I was 12 weeks, as we concieved Ds when DD was only 5 months old...and only had time to do it once!

Any how...fast forward to a growth scan this week (38+3) and low and behold I am measuring "big"...which of course I am as I know the original dating scan is inaccurate. Despite this my edd hasn't been ammended on my notes.

I do believe that if you bring this up with your midwife, and if they are cooperative, you can actually negotiate your EDD, I have heard of this being done before...after all, EDD is only based on measurements which given the position of the baby may be different Everytime.

Definitely worth pursuing and hope that helps!

I had IVF so knew exactly whatt dates were but the songraphers insisted they were right and the midwives even when I explained.

CrushedCornflakes · 21/03/2018 15:22

I knew the dates, ivf so knew fertilisation dates and when they put the embryos back in. They still insisted on using their dates, which were wrong.
