To think all toddlers are gross? Mine certainly is. (lighthearted)

Dd2 (also 2 years old) seems to leave a trail of crust and grossness behind her.

No matter how often I bath and wipe her she is always grubby and delights in rubbing food etc into her hair and clothes.

I parked her pram at the side of an aisle in poundland yesterday, to look at Easter bonnet stuff with dd1, and in less than 1 minute she'd clawed her way into a bag of compost and sprinkled a few handfuls over herself.

Today we were playing aeroplanes and she laughed so hard she sicked a mouthful of breakfast all over my face and then said, sweet as anything ''you need it wipe mummy''.

quite often we'll be having a cuddle and I'll feel a wet patch, only to realise she's been licking me the whole time. she finds this hilarious, obviously.

Are they all like this or is mine especially gross?
When do they stop being so icky? DD1 had/has sensory issues and hated being messy or dirty so I'm not used to this!

They don't stop. Ever.
My 4 yr old DS was showing my 1.5 yr old DD how to pick and eat bogies this morning.
Possibly partly my fault as I make a big fuss about him teaching her things, but I mean like words, and using a spoon properly sort of thing!!
They also like farting on each other.

NomsQualityStreets · 21/03/2018 12:14

When DS was about 1 (now 3) he used to delight in climbing into our bed in the morning standing up holding onto the headboard and repeatedly squishing his nappy onto DPs head. He used to sit on his head then giggle and stand up and do it again and again all the while poor DP would lay there with resignation on his face.

Also when him and DP play fight now DS loves to tackle him and lick his face.
He's an expert at smearing his snot all over his face to create a lovely crusty layer.
He also sometimes tries to eat his food like a dog only using his face.

ineedwine99 · 21/03/2018 12:19

My 19m old isn't too messy thankfully and is fine being cleaned, she doesn't rub food on her etc (when bored chooses to launch her cutlery across the room instead...), but she does lick me, and windows, and baby wipes....odd little things :-D

MrsJayy · 21/03/2018 12:20

I have worked with toddlers on and off for 30 years and the slime that oozes off them baffles me it is gross and they want to touch you

ToastyFingers · 21/03/2018 12:24

noms we've had the nappy smoosh too, that first-thing-in-the-morning nappy is grim too.

She had a cold a few weeks ago, and I swear she managed to aim every cough either at my face or my food. It's a wonder I escaped unscathed.

I've lost count of the times I hear dd1 call for help because she's being licked or bodyslammed. She loves it really though.

Mine's just been making mud food for the cat and muddy puddles in the garden wearing waterproofs and still required a complete change of clothes. Now she's drinking hot chocolate to warm her up and has spilt it all down her top. This morning she gave me a bogey. They're delightful.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 21/03/2018 12:27

DD is nearly 1. She has recently learned to walk, and this morning I got to witness her utter delight at realising she could pick her nose with both hands while on the move.

Bleugh.

Popopokemon · 21/03/2018 12:31

Oh god, the licking! Very nearly 3 year old DD is always doing this, she’ll ask for a kiss and at the last minute lick your face Envy (not envy!)

MrsJayy · 21/03/2018 12:33

I am not some weirdy MN stalker but how is your baby nearly 1 Lrd It seems only last week I read she was born.

ToastyFingers · 21/03/2018 12:34

Ah the ever generous gift of a bogey!

What is it with kids and nose picking anyway, it really makes me shudder.

Also, dd2 seems to be obsessed with cats backsides. Dsis has a friendly old cat, who is happy to be patted and poked by little ones, but I have to spend the whole time pulling dd2 away from the 'nicepuzzycat' cos she wants to pay it's bum.

Mine currently has a sticking up eyebrow from wiping snot upwards and he won't let me wipe it. He also likes to use me as a human hanky.
I'm really enjoying the fact that he's had a cold every couple of weeks since starting nursery in January Hmm

ToastyFingers · 21/03/2018 12:41

Also, one of dd1s friends has the cutest little brother, he's an absolute angel but is always covered in snot. Their whole house must be crusted in snot film.

YABU if you think it stops at toddlerhood, I reckon, having seen my nephew and nieces at 5, 6, 7, 8...!

But toddlers probably do have the edge on being the grossest of all.

GrouchyKiwi · 21/03/2018 12:47

My children are 6, 3 and nearly 2. I don't know what clean looks like anymore.

mumofmunchkin · 21/03/2018 12:48

I never know how other people's kids appear to be comparatively well presented at toddler groups etc. My youngest inevitably looks like he's been dragged through a hedge backwards and is wearing his breakfast (and the contents of his nose) no matter how many times I wipe his face. He also likes licking things, anything. And drinking the bath water. And picking up every bit of dirt off the pavement and showing me. And drains, he is obsessed with drains.

It's lucky he is cute.

IanRushesInadequateFlushes · 21/03/2018 12:59

Mumofmunchkin - a couple of my friends have managed to have toddlers who can't stand dirt and like to wear clean clothes at all times. One of them tidies up toys for fun.

How?

HOW???

In the name of god, HOW do you get a toddler like that?!

InterstellarSleepingElla · 21/03/2018 13:07

😂Sounds like my just turned 3 year old! Everything even down to the licking! Actually my 15 year old is a bit gross also...think cups and plates forgotten about with science projects growing on them...snotty hankies discarded.... I need a hazmat suit every time I enter her doom! That is a typo but feel it is rather apt so not changing it! 😂

LeeroyJenkins · 21/03/2018 13:28

We call DS (16 months) Baby Slug as he just leaves a trail of stuff everywhere. My house permanently looks like a sticky bombsite. He is made from snot, smiles, love, muck, crusty fluff and leftover breakfast.

ItchyKondera · 21/03/2018 13:28

oh yes the licking!! why?!
and drinking bathwater - surely its gross.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 21/03/2018 13:34

Grin Tell me about it, mrsjay! I can't believe it myself. It's flown by!

Here's a picture of her snottiness, with the pack of socks she has stolen:

To think all toddlers are gross? Mine certainly is. (lighthearted)
SleepingStandingUp · 21/03/2018 13:40

DS can be a litte bit of a princess if he gets yuk on hid fingers but his answer is to shove it in my mouth for cleaning
He does like kissing my nose open mouthed, ewwww squishy!

BillyAndTheSillies · 21/03/2018 13:56

DS (25 months) is properly minging sometimes.
He's got a mop of hair that we often find remnants of food in.
He picked his nose the other day and my mum asked if he wanted a tissue...his reply was "no grandma, me eat it". She caught it before he managed to.
Caught him sharing a banana with a dog once. Lovely.
But he's the first one to say "my highchair dirty, clean it mummy"

ToastyFingers · 21/03/2018 14:32

LRD is that one of those wooden push along things in the foreground of your picture? (your DD looks like adorable mischief BTW)

We have a Peter rabbit one, dd2 mostly bashes things with it, it's bloody dangerous but no matter where I hide it, it gets found.

OP posts:
MrsJayy · 21/03/2018 14:36

HA snotty sock thief Grin

LRDtheFeministDragon · 21/03/2018 14:43

Yep, its the Peter Rabbit one. TBH I wouldn't have chosen it - my mum bought it - because they are bloody lethal. But she does love it!

(And yes, adorable mischief more or less sums it up!)
