What's your diet like?

What do you like?

What are you snacking on?

Holidaysun · 21/03/2018 11:39

So it’s chocolate between meals and occasionally crisps . I need tips on alternatives and also on willpower ..

The easiest thing is just to not keep snacks in the house. If they aren't easily accessible the are much easier to resist!

Try having more fulfilling meals and not snacking at all - so a couple of boiled eggs and some avocado / tomato / etc for breakfast, soup and fruit and low calories crisps like sun bites for lunch, and then piles and piles of veg with your tea.

I also find it really helpful to log calories in my fitness pal. You snack less when you can see how much it derails your calorie goals!

I hate to say it but those people who say 'no carbs before marbs' are right.

Just cut out carbohydrates and you'll soon see a loss and by carbohydrates I mean the high-carb foods such as sugar, wheat and root vegetables. Have plenty of kale, green salad, meat, fish, eggs, yoghurt and you'll be there in no time.

I used to visualise every snack as fat - my legs/whatever now compared to what I wanted them to look like. Was normally enough to make me not snack/eat fruit.

I found it very effective but am quite confident with my body. If you have low self esteem/body image issues this might not be great.

User0ne · 21/03/2018 11:59

Oh alternatives: fruit, veggie sticks, plain corn thins/rice cakes.

If you cook pasta, rice or potatoes twice it also changes the type of carbohydrate to a healthier one so cook pasta in the morning and reheat for lunch.

Agree with MaudlinMews, cut the carbs. No rice, pasta, potatoes, bread, sugar, crisps etc. Just eat protein, fat and leafy vegetables. So that would bacon and eggs for breakfast, a large salad (mostly lettuce) with a tin of tuna in oil, mayonnaise, olives, feta/mozarella etc. Dinner a piece of meat/fish/chicken with kale/broccoli/cauliflower drenched in butter. If you need to snack, eat nuts or Greek natural yoghurt. If it's really bad, a square of dark chocolate.

Take a probiotic as it can be a hard change for your stomach. After a short while you will find that you do not crave snacks and that you are satiated. You might even find that you can fast through the morning to lunch (only water) - that will really kick your weight loss, but be careful, don't do anything uncomfortable.

Walk as much as you can.
Allow yourself one treat per day (evening worked best for me so that I could look forward to it-sad, I know). Going without entirely made me give up.
Good luck

Download an app called Lost It. You set a weight target and how fast you want to ‘lose it’ and it tell you how many calories you can consume.

Then you input everything you eat (and drink if you booze) into it. It links to the NHS database on foods, so has recipes from cookbooks/food from supermarkets linked to it. You can also scan barcodes.

The you have to be honest with yourself and the app and log everything. You can also input exercise (so if you walk the dog, log it as it boosts your calorie allowance).

I’ve lost 7lbs in 12 days. It does work. But you have to be honest with it.

Lose it. Not ‘lost it)

Smaller portions & leave some food on your plate every time you eat. Your stomach gets used to less. Your DH gets fatter because he finishes your dinner

Uniglo18 · 21/03/2018 17:10

Try the blood sugar diet by Dr. Michael Mosley. You get lots of support from the website and health professionals if you decide to follow their tailor made plans. You don't need to sign up as there's loads of information on the website to help you do it by yourself.

Drink loads of water. Have a pint of water when you wake up, keep a bottle on you and drink during the day, have a pint at before you eat lunch and dinner. Water will fill you up so you won’t over eat (a lolittle of time we mistake dehydration for hunger and eat when we actually just need a drink!)

Stop buying crisps/chocolate

Buy and snack or fruit/nuts instead

Walk! Get up and go out for an hours walk (brisk walking, not just sauntering along looking at your phone or whatever) do it every day starting now!!!

Cut out all alcohol from now until your holiday. It’s just full of calories!!!!

PoisonousSmurf · 21/03/2018 17:18

Try this and also weight training is useful in losing inches and toning up.

Holidaysun · 21/03/2018 17:27

Do't eat after 6pm, only eat breakfast after 9am.

Cut the chocolate out definitely or at least minimise it to a smaller one, once a day.

Smaller portions, eat using smaller cutlery. :)
