My question is what it is acceptable to do with my dc who was sick in school on Monday, therefore cannot go back until tomorrow. We have had to go out as have to get other dc to school but this was frowned upon yesterday. (Dc is fine hasn't been sick since).

Normally when off this dc would be in the kitchen cooking. I think maybe that is a bit of a risk? We did 'craft's to death yesterday and dc doesn't really like craft anyway. So suggestions/acceptable options please?

Thanks!

I have 4dc, 2 in school and they all come out on the school run with me unless they are too ill to walk.
What age is dc?
Ds1&2 (8&6) on their 48hr from sick days would draw/ read/ watch netflix/ play with toys/ play in garden, just whatever things they would do on a normal holiday day/ weekend.

I stick a dvd (or 10) on.... if they get bored of that then they have books, education city on the computer, drawing, etc etc.

If you're worried about missing out on school work...Do they have any homework? any spelling which need learning?

kaytee87 · 21/03/2018 09:48

Who frowned upon you taking your dc on school run? What else are you meant to do with them?
How old is your dc? I'd do any homework first, read some books, watch some tv / films

MrsPreston11 · 21/03/2018 09:50

This is what the TV was made for? No?

Build a den in the house. Do a treasure hunt (you can google for clues to write/print out)

EasterRobin · 21/03/2018 09:57

Surely every child gets to watch a movie when they are ill.

LagunaBubbles · 21/03/2018 09:59

Why do you have to "do" anything? Cant they just relax and watch TV for example? Confused

EasterRobin · 21/03/2018 09:59

What age is your child?

DC is in question 8. (Other is 4). Unfortunately dc8 doesn't really watch TV and is scared of films. So TV day doesn't work. She was also feeling fine so the sitting around aspect for a second day would have driven her daft!

Teacher on playground questioned why she was there (not in uniform - stood next to me whilst other DC put their lunchbox in before going into school). Dd said this - response was to look at me and say she should be at home in bed!

We finished up going for a bit of a ramble in the woods - picking up sticks etc to make something and taking some photos. Really nice day!

My question really arose from wondering what others would find acceptable in circumstances rather than needing entertainment ideas. (Would you have kept them in? Had no choice on the school run)

Would have kept them in unless we needed to go out.

School run - yep, trip to local shop for a pint of milk - yep, supermarket for weekly shop - nope, ramble in the woods - probably nope, if kids have been sick they need rest and rehydration.

To be honest we also make sure it is not "fun" to be off school - but that may just be us.

BlackeyedSusan · 21/03/2018 17:24

so they will be fine authorising your other child to have two days off as well?

IMightMentionGriddlebone · 21/03/2018 17:36

I have never had this, because I have never met a teacher that was that daft. Every one has appreciated that when one child is ill, he/she has to come with you on the school run during the 48 hour quarantine period if they're too young to stay at home on their own.

If any teacher had said that, I would genuinely have given them the Hmm face, and asked whether she was suggesting my well child had an unauthorised day off school, or whether I should leave the quarantined one at home on his/her own.

When I have a child literally in the throes od D&V, his/her inability to leave the vicinity of the bathroom has kept the others off school (which is probably for the best, because the others were incubating it!) but if the 48 hour period meant you couldn't even enter the playground with recovering siblings for a hasty drop-off of the Child That Got The Bug First And Is Totally Better Now, my kids would practically never have been in school at all!
