I followed the previous thread with interest and found it informative and overall very fair. It has really opened my eyes to a) how naive I still can be and b) how the world of marketing relies on all of us remaining naive. The reason however for this thread is that this blogger / instagrammer doesmybumlook40 seems to have reached that key shark jumping moment ! Having been bombarded with marketing posts recently I decided to review her stats. Since the 22 Feb Ms Farmer has presented paid partnerships with Avon, Max factor, L’Oréal, Sony Pictures UK, Babyliss uk, Clarins UK, Max Factor , a Gin company, M&S and F&F clothing. That is within a mere 3 weeks. And I’m not even referencing gifts , nights out, dinners etc etc. I’m a hardened old broad who has worked in finance most of her life so whilst I’m disappointed, I now know I can’t look at this woman as a genial one-of-the-gals-why-don’t-you-try-this-at-home-folks type blogger/grammer and instead I need to see her as a mouthpiece for hire.
But will everyone ? And isn’t that the thing we need to ask the advertising body to regulate ASAP ???

Brilliant article with excellent comments below the line reiterating exactly what many posters have been writing on these threads

" The fact remains it's a grotesque violation of your children's privacy and they are not in a position to consent." MOD/FOD et al take note.

I can kind of see why people interested in fashion might look at IG to get ideas about how to put together 'looks' etc or even just for some time wasting browsing, but the absolute hand wringing that's gone on about 'transparency' recently has made my mind boggle.

Do people genuinely believe that bloggers who spend all day diarising their life and wearing two or three outfits a day while doing 'aspirational' things are doing it for the love of it and living on fresh air?

I don't understand how people feel "let down" by these bloggers when it's as plain as day that they're in it for the corporate shilling and have been from the off. I don't have a problem with it- everyone has to earn a living somehow- but then again I spend approximately 0.0001% of my time on Instagram, so I'm not the intended audience anyway.

But I read a lot about it on here so it clearly offends a lot of people.

Agreed that using children in such a Me Me Me way is a bit off, though.

I like Kat Farmer's blog. I liked her Instagram. Her stories do her no favours. None at all. Very samey and very, very me-me-me-me-me. The same silly faces. The over pronunciation and dramatic delivery is tedious. And for gods sake would she please just sit on that right hand and stop touching her chin/lips/hair/cheek/nose. A shame as her blog is well written most of the time. Choose your medium carefully.

If people are too dim to not realise they’re being sold stuff by these people, then I don’t know what to say. All bloggers/instagrammers are doing the same thing, trying to make money. I find it all a bit cringe but I also don’t get why people can’t see through them.

This.

She does have the most unfortunate name - especially for a so called style blogger Grin

I follow 2 or 3 fashion bloggers and Kat is one of them.

I have my hair done at Aveda now and again and I found the loveliest top recently, saw both things on her IG feed. She makes me laugh and I enjoy the stories.

We are marketed to constantly anyway. What’s the problem again?

I have read her blog for a while and found it very interesting that certain people commented instantly on every post (Danish Pastry anyone?) and were so very defensive of her if anyone made a slightly negative comment. More interesting is the reduction in engagement with her blog - most posts have a maximum of 3 comments. She is doing well at the moment but I really think her time is limited.
