Just seen this thread in my news feed. Man with 90% tattoos on his body. He beat cancer in his early 20’s and became what I would describe as addicted to tattoos to redefine himself after his illness. Apart from the fact that I’d never in a million years do this to my body, I would have thought it potentially dangerous if the cancer comes back as it could be missed or the mri giving false readings. www.thesun.co.uk/news/5856185/adam-curlykale-tattoo-90-percent-of-his-body-instagram/

Good Lord that's horrendous. Not sure of the cancer link but why the fuck do people do such shit to their bodies.

I'd say he has MH issues seeing that.
Yes because im sure everyone with loads of tattoos has mental health problems Hmm
No Chaos because it's not normal to do that to your own body.
Says you. May be others would think some of the things you do aren’t normal?
Who are you to say what’s normal?

I was quoting from this consultation. Stuff that I read about it being cancerous was probably from some tabloid. echa.europa.eu/documents/10162/2b217418-1bd9-7e00-7355-a9fb792d68b3.

As far as the immune system side goes. I've undergone tattoo removal and it was explained to me that the lasering breaks down the particles so your body can dispose of them via excretion. The effect on your immune system is that it effectively 'shakes it awake' to help the process be targeted.

I don't see how that would have anything to do with increasing his future cancer risks? Although yes some old style inks contained heavy metals I believe.. No doubt someone with specific knowledge could explain it far better.

CaptainCardamom · 20/03/2018 17:33

I don't know if we all do really think it's fine for anyone to do whatever they want to their own body. There are limits to that - where it becomes self-harm that does involve MH issues, or if it's offensive or racist etc.

I can see what he's doing as arty or emotional self-expression, but I do think it's not very helpful if his job really is psychotherapy and talking to patients. It is probably shocking to the average person, presumably because he likes it that way. It deliberately makes him look kind of inhuman. But that's maybe not so great if you're starting therapy in a state of anxiety or possibly having had hallucinations or delusions, and have to open up to a bloke with blue eyeballs.

CaptainCardamom · 20/03/2018 17:39

It's nothing to do with you, it's his body.
Take your fucking 1950's disgust at tattoos and get in the fucking bin.

Feeling unnerved by what this guy looks like does not automatically mean you have a 1950s disgust at tattoos.

I like some people's tattoos, others look ugly to me. Tattooed eyeballs makes me feel weird and uncomfortable because it affects how you see his expression, and humans in general rely a lot on being able to read each other's expressions.

Plus, other people's view on tattoos are nothing to do with you either, they have their own minds, just as he has his own body.

Tattooing means sticking a needle in your skin to leave a permanent layer of ink under it. If that freaks some people out, that's reasonable surely.

Mummyoflittledragon · 20/03/2018 17:47

Flyingmonkeys
It says in the article he has a weak immune system. Ink according to the consultation does break down over time. Idk if that’s all ink or crappy ink as detailed by Granny or all ink. As someone with a weak immune system, it just struck me as something not good to do to yourself if your immunity isn’t great.

Francis
I just realised you were talking about the link I posted from Medical Daily.

Iwouldrather
He’s stunning in the picture with blue eyes, not so keen all black.

All that said, I’m still shocked that someone would have the stamina to change themselves in this way. Perhaps it’s because I am squeamish and have chronic pain so to me getting the work done would be incomprehensible.

Captain
No I wouldn’t be going to him for therapy but then I’m not his target client.

Also if you read down the article it states he ended up with skin conditions, and pigmentation discolouration after his cancer treatment. I view it as his choice regarding the tattoos, and potentially a way he's regained feelings of control over his body.

Flamingoringo · 20/03/2018 17:53

The eyeballs are quite... a lot.

FlyingMonkeys · 20/03/2018 17:53

All tattoos break down over time regardless, that's why they fade. I suppose which way you look at it though? Is it having a negative effect on his immune system? Or is it keeping it constantly 'revved up' because your body is trying to break the ink down?

There are articles stating the latter online too.

Vickxy · 20/03/2018 18:04

Totally his choice tbh. However one choses to deal with having cancer is nothing to do with me, unless it actually impacts on someone else/me in some negative way.

That must have been very interesting!

FlyingMonkey
Yes I read the article and saw his skin pigmentation discoloured following treatment and his need to reclaim his body. No idea about the immune system. I can only speak for myself. My body wouldn’t be able to cope as it’s constantly in overdrive.

I have a very low immune system, not once have i ever been advice against tattoos, nor have anyone i know.

VladmirsPoutine · 20/03/2018 20:25

Tattooed eyes should be a criminal offence.

PolkaHots · 09/08/2018 12:32

I think maybe a lot of people slagging you off...

a. Have tattoos themselves and feel attacked.
b. Have not actually clicked on the link and assumes he’s just someone with a lot of tats.

Looks horrific imo, and of course it’s fine to comment on other people’s aesthetics. Isn’t that the point of attention seeking?

Bluelady · 09/08/2018 12:42

I find that look quite scary, it makes me feel quite uncomfortable.
