Had to meet with solicitor today. We sat down and he starts by asking my full name, date of birth and then asking if I was male or female! I'm very clearly female but answered him politely.
Next he's talking to me and screwing up pieces of paper and firing them around the room as he did so. Very offputting so I joked and said "do you have someone to come in and clean all them up for you?" And he stayed dead serious and said "yes"!?

As the meeting progressed the carpet was getting absolutely covered in these little paper balls, they were all over the desk and chairs, it was getting ridiculous. A few started getting fired in my direction so I asked him to stop as it was making me feel uncomfortable and he said it's stress relief - surely not?

Are you sure you weren't on impractical jokers? Grin

MermaidHead · 20/03/2018 13:30

Nope..he sounds weird, in any case you’re not comfortable with him, use someone else

SpringNowPlease2018 · 20/03/2018 13:30

um...he wasn't called Howard by any chance?

actually, no, the world is full of people like this. Sorry!

Comeymemo "Partner in a global law firm here. Definitely not normal behaviour. Lawyers usually bend over backwards to get/retain clients."

Precisely. THIS is is normal behaviour from a legal professional, not throwing paper about.

Weird!!!

Solicitors do not come cheap. Did he give good advice at the meeting ?

Tink2007 · 20/03/2018 13:33

Probably the strangest behaviour I’ve heard of from a solicitor

Billben · 20/03/2018 13:36

I would be taking my business elsewhere I’m afraid. If he is that stressed that he needs to thrown paper balls around the room then I wouldn’t trust him to be able to deal with my case. I dont like his arrogant attitude about having someone who picks the balls up for him either, so I wouldn’t have anything to do with him because of that too. But, I would make sure I told whoever was in charge at that firm my reasons for not wanting that particular solicitor to deal with my case, IF I stayed with the firm.

Unless there is a severe shortage of solicitors in your area OP I think I would have got up and walked out after the first couple of throws.

Very rude way of behaving, shows a distinct lack of engagement and a large measure of arrogance. Someone concentrating on throwing things isn't going to be giving anyone or anything else their full undivided attention

MsHarry · 20/03/2018 13:44

Abnormal behaviour and unprofessional. I'd mention it the the boss.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 20/03/2018 13:56

I know 3 who do this, brilliant but weird as fuck. And that’s coming from me who gets hidden in a dungeon away from the normal folk

KimmySchmidt1 · 20/03/2018 14:29

He sounds like an idiot, check his qualifications and if possible find another solicitor. Then write to the firm and explain why they lost your business.
