AIBU to think that it is possible to avoid the press? That people who court the news are in the news?
For example, Peter Kay has disappeared off the face of the earth and there is little or no speculation as to why. He is not in the news at all since his cancelled tour announcement.
So many people just slip into the shadows so AIBU to think it's possible to avoid the gossip rags and their front page rubbish?

Totally. Personally I have theories on both:

Kylie could be the type of pregnant women who internalised everything and felt vulnerable or uncomfortable with attention related to pregnancy (I was like this: I didn’t people until quite late) and maybe protective of the baby. When the baby was born she just, like many women, wanted to show the fuck off about that little ball of perfection she grew.

Cheryl: is embarrassed at the failed marriages and very quick pregnancy with what’s his face.

There are hardly any photos of her with bump, they didn’t confirm the pregnancy etc. It was very much not done in the usual Kardashian way. Who knows why, I don’t really care but it was definitely not done in the usual family style.

Funnily enough I’ve wondered myself about Harvey stories and have just googled again to reconfirm- the stories that come up when you google him and are fairly old and recent updates don’t tend to refer to him directly. Overall giving the impression that no one is looking for him, which I don’t believe. I wonder if he also has the equivalent of an injunction in place? His money won’t last long, be interesting to see what happens when the criminal cases etc gain traction

I think it is possible for famous people to hide things from the media- but I also think a lot of the things we see in this country are put there on purpose. Even though it looks spontaneous, someone in their management will have arranged a photoshoot etc etc.

When One Direction were at their height, a lot of their fans became very aware of this. All sort of random stuff would appear in the papers, and it was like they couldn't escape the press, but when they really really wanted to do something privately- it was possible.

Jennifer Aniston also used to wear the exact same outfit - black tank top, loose harem pants - every time she went out to devalue pap photos of her. It's also what most actors do when they're appearing in the West end - they wear the same clothes when they arrive and leave via the stage door each night so the paps only get the same boring photo over and over again.

A friend of mine has a son who is an actor. He is good-looking and in a well-known TV series which is seen worldwide.

I know a lot of celebrities court the press, especially the more B-level ones. But I think for the most part they follow around the people that people are interested in. Yes, Paul McCartney is a mega-star, but he isn't someone who's involved in a lot of scandals or anything like that. Plus, the demographics of tabloids, I would imagine, skew a bit younger. So they may be more interested in say, a Justin Bieber than a Paul McCartney.

Taylor Swift did it for a year but the press still hounded made up articles from ‘sources’ and other “celebrities” still name dropped her every now and then to stay relevant. As a pp said above, it all depends on who the media fancy praising/attacking that week

As for the Kylie thing, how was it secret?! Tmz knew at a few months. And I bet it’s literally the same as Kim K - she didn’t want to be seen fat. She said it was for the baby’s privacy, but the SECOND that baby was born it wad on youtube, instagram, snapchats snd so was she, and launching new products and launches, and setting up paps and pr shots. If she wanted privacy for the baby that makes no sense whatsoever, she’ll use it and has done as a cash cow already.

Same with Victoria Beckham when she was pregnant. She completely his away and shrouded herself. I suspect it was more to do with not wanting to be photographed 'fat' than to protect a baby's privacy before it had even been born. To be fair though, I think I'd hide away when faced with the Daily Mails fetish like obsession with bump photos.

Plus posing for campaigns with a blanket over her belly wasn’t exactly secretive 😂 and face only shots on instagram to keep up the speculation and gossip.. she knew full well how to keep up the interest and publicity. No way was she being private and secretive or she’d have gone off grid completely. Everything micromanaged by Kris Jenner has a pr spin!

I feel sorry for Alicia Vikander at the moment. She's trying to promote a new film and every single interviewer is hassling her about her recent marriage. She could not make it more obvious that she doesn't want to talk about her personal life and they should respect that.

I didn't know about the clothes thing. I agree that those who don't constantly attend events & just live a normal life get left alone. They see it all as a job & are as boring as the rest of us in RL.
