Landlord's (wife's) post

We are private tenants - I'd say we're good tenants (always pay on time, keep the place clean and tidy, anything that breaks we replace with like for like or better) and our landlord is pretty fair (rent is reasonable, he's always responsive if we do need to contact him, was fine about us moving our rent day by two days etc)
The only thing that is driving me POTTY is that, after nearly two years, we are still receiving his wife's post.
Every other day, a letter comes for her. And not just spammy stuff - it looks official. She's in a professional field and we get correspondence from her governing body. Letters with bank return addresses. Phone bills. We mentioned it to our landlord and he just says sorry. We never get anything for him, just her.

Until now we've been putting it in a big envelope once a month a forwarding it on, but AIBU to just stop that and bin it?? Surely after 21 months you should have updated all addresses?

If you're at the stage of obtaining a mortgage agreement and that close to moving then I think it's even more daft you're getting so het up about this Op. Even if you're buying a chain free property dates move and it can be useful to have some flexibility from your landlord as to moving date, to give them a forwarding address (as from experience having paid for mail redirection each time we moved before buying a long term property last year, the odd thing may still slip through in the early weeks while you change everything).

You've repeatedly told other posters you're sure there's nothing dodgy going on, it sounds like you're relatively short term tenants at only a couple of years and who knows what they plan to do with the property after. Maybe she doesn't see the point at this stage in changing addresses for the relevant bodies until you've gone if they're looking to sell, use it themselves, let to family.

But clearly it's important to you to make a point to them before you leave that you don’t think you should have had to pass mail on so go ahead . . .

Just box and ignore. You don't work for them.

Lazy woman can sort it out. If they have done all the legals ( good news) then they know it isn't worth evicting over.

Tbh there are so many worse things in life.
If everything else is too challenging, just chuck it all in a box and leave it for the landlord to deal with when you move out.

Some organisations are rubbish at updating their mailing lists. I manage a flat whose owners are out of the country. Most organisations that would be expected to cope with members being away refused to send anything abroad, and most of the ones that were informed still carried on sending paper anyway.

The tenants put it all in a box and I collect and process it every month or so. It's been 2.5 years and still mortgage statements, new credit cards, and a million eye test reminders turn up, despite them all having been informed.

It won’t affect your credit rating if you do not have connected finances. Living at the same address bears no weight in this regard. It’s a common misconception that some can’t get their head around.

I would not bin, return to sender or otherwise destroy the mail. If you have such good landlords do not rock the relationship. Good landlords are incredibly hard to find and I think you will regret it. Just pass it on.
